Max Payne thread.

I will be giving this a watch but won't be boosting my hopes as the majority of games to movies films have been total flops.

Super Mario Bros

Streetfighter

Mortal Kombat 1 & 2

Alone In The Dark

I honestly think that Resident Evil was the only 1 that was any good.

However as long as it wasn't made by Uwe Bol then I guess it has a pretty good chanced of being good.

I've heard (from Empire) that it's not Mark Wahlbergs worst film this year, but only just - so I'm not expecting it to be good and thus staying away.

I enjoyed the first Resident Evil film, but must admit I hadn't played any of the games before then. Max Payne is one of my favourite games of all time so there is little chance that a film can actually do it justice and capture the feeling of being immersed in his world. (except for those annoying dream/valkyr levels that broke up the game :p)

its had bad reviews in alll i have read BUT dint forget this film is manliy for the fans of the game just like previous game-movie tie ins that why reviews are bad cause half of the reviewers have never played the game

I quite enjoyed it, but there were a few problems with it.

Mark Wahlberg. I think he's great in a lot of other roles, but I didn't really feel him as Max Payne. He just wasn't tortured or cynical enough. He wasn't bad and he kept it together well, but I don't think he was the best choice for the role.

Internal monologuing. It made the game and fitted with the film nior/graphic novel intentions. Yet all we got was one at the very beginning and no more. It made little sense why they got it so right in the very first scene and then we never got it again.

The Action scenes. Now don't get me wrong, they were good but they all felt like they were cut short. It seemed like that they were always building up towarRAB something great and at the last minute - when they should have been kicking up a gear - they ended. Like they were building towarRAB a climax and then someone forgot to add the climax.

I guess it just felt a little unpolished. A little more work and structure could have made the world of difference and made it an amazing action flick. As it was, it was a pleasently diverting, but ultimately forgettable, action flick.

Alien vs Predator, Doom, Silent Hill...videogames to movies are seldom any good.

I think one of the big problems is that games don't rely on much of a plot - it's all action and that's fine for a game. No-one wants to be bogged down with loaRAB of dialogue or cutscenes in a game, they just want to mostly get on with playing the thing.

The opposite is true for a good movie - you want a good story but too many action set-pieces and not enough plot do not make a good movie.

I'll reserve judgement on Max Payne until I see it but I'm not optimistic.

i saw it over the weekend and it's weird really - i didn't hate it, but it just didn't make any sense or elicit any kind of emotion.

i watched it and forgot about it.

i recognised some of the scenes from the game but that's about it - the rest didn't tend to make a lot of sense.

I totally agree. It was strange and uninvolving.

Mark Wahlberg was a bit miscast.

I didn't even recognise Chris O'Donnell until I saw his name in the credits. He's changed.

The last 2 films I've seen have starred that Olga woman, lol.

Blasphemous!

Max Payne was decent. I agree with what was said about Mark Wahlberg. He's fantastic, but he just wasn't quite 'right' as Max Payne. I got a sense of a B version of Sin City whilst I was watching it, and Mark Wahlberg just doesn't compare to Clive Owen at all.

Decent action film, but overall forgettable. Not bad by any means though.
