Matt Damon's "view" on James Bond

I couldn't beleive it when i read the article on this, how dare he say that you couldn't compare James bond to The Borne Identity, (More likely its the other way round)

James Bond has been going on for decades (donkeys' years basically) The Borne identity trilology is just a little "baby" compared to James Bond

Im so "flippen" furious with his coments, they basically copied and then tweeked the format

:mad::mad::mad::mad:

pls discuss

There's a reason why actors don't spend their downtime mapping the human genome, or hypothesizing as to the existence of other planes of reality, or fine-tuning their keynote speech on linguistic tropes and idioms;)

Die Another Day was supposed to be a celebration of Bond movies, and ended up being a piss-take, with the invisible car, and Madonna.

The Bourne movies re-invented the genre, and Casino Royale and Quantum of Solatchay then copied the Bourne movies. Simple as...

DAD was a step too far and yes, the Bourne films made the producers realise that it needed reigning in...but if Damon thinks Bourne is some sort of angelic do gooder he is talking out of his hat. Bourne is a government assassin who kills without remorse. Not that much different from Bond.

I was wondering whether someone would start a thread on this, as Damon's comments irked me a little too.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not really a that much a fan of old style Bond films and I actually like the Bourne trilogy, but come on, Borne wouldn't have existed without Bond. Also, Damon's comments on Bond being an imperialist are somewhat ironic, as the USA has been building itself a modern empire for years (not American bashing BTW).

Now to the bit about misoginy. Yes, old style Bond was a misoginist, but actually I think this part of his character has been addressed very well in the new films in how he became a woman hater...it is actually highlighted as a flaw in the new films and not something to be celebrated as part of his suave persona.

Also, Damon's comments seem to completely skirt over the change in the two new films. In fact, he's been making the same comments over and over since the Bourne trilogy began. I don't know whether it comes from a defensiveness that Bourne is perceived by some to be a "rip off" of Bond.

Matt Damon thinks he's the man after Good Will Hunting and he gives off such a horrible vibe that he's better than everyone else. Not surprised by his comments, JB is such an iconic movie figure, not sure if any film series has ever got to it's level.

Are these new comments, or just a re-hash of the comments that he made when the Bourne Identity first came out. (A link to the article please)

If the latter, then he's right bearing in mind that the Daniel Craig films hadden't been released, but there was a lot of camparisonising (is that a word?) going on.

If new comments then he is out of order, somewhat.

The current Bond, played by Daniel Craig, isn't much of a womanizer, a woman-hater, doesn't drink much. And the British Empire doesn't exist anymore. If anything, Craig's Bond has moved a bit towarRAB Bourne. There are parts of Quantum of Solace which could be from any of the three Bourne films. Kinda ironic Damon having a go at Bond when Bond is now copying element of the Bourne franchise. I guess Damon is referring to the original Sean Connery film Bond, not the current version.

Personally speaking, I wouldn't mind the next Bond actor - whoever it turns out to be - to be more like Connery's Bond - more aspirational, more of the classic Bond, but I think that Bond is gone for good. The original film Bond was a product of the 1960s so it's out-of-date. And Fleming's Bond was a product of the 1950s.

Brosnan would have clung on to the part for dear life like Roger Moore I expect.

Plus I'd gladly let his era go as it was dire in the extreme but whilst the Craig hatas persist to goon about like WWII Japanese soldiers fighting a war that has already been lost I'll continue to put the boot in accordingly.

"Bond is an imperialist, misogynist sociopath who goes around bedding women and swilling martinis and killing people. He's repulsive."

hmmmm

Untitled Jason Bourne Project (2010)

So they are filming maybe later this year and want to distance themselves from any comparison to the rebooted Bond movies.
If the Americans had made the Jimmy Bond films it would have been okay. But since James is British and saving the world he is a sexist has been.

Never seen the new Bond films or the Bourne films but it sounRAB like they have removed all the good and fun stuff about Bond, tried to turn it into a more serious set of films.

If Bond doesn't go around drinking Martini and shagging as many hot women as possible then I just don't see the point, I bet they have no over the top super villians or cool bad guys now either do they?

They have tried and succeeded brilliantly. Bond films has become horrific bloated self parodies. It's one of the few modern 'reboots' that was genuinely needed.

*bang*

I found the Bourne movies quite boring to be honest. They had moments of niceties but a very short man running around all placid and mission like wasn't that exciting.

I prefer James Bond. It's more earthy.
