Matt Damon's "view" on James Bond

The old BonRAB were better. What more could anybody want from a spy film, Bond was cool, went around drinking, killing people and sleeping with as many hot women as possible (how a spy should act), they had great names in the old BonRAB, brilliant campy villians who always chose some ridiculous method to try and kill Bond rather than just shoot him, it was a good bit of campy fun to waste a couple hours on a Sunday afternoon!

Now we have super serious Bond, doesn't like women much, doesn't drink much blah blah, I don't want a Bond film to try and be serious and realistic, I might as well just watch any spy film if that's the case.

This being said, I don't like spy films much anyway so maybe that's why I like the ridiculous side of things in the older BonRAB, if you are into these type of movies then I can imagine you liking the new BonRAB just as I like the rebooted Batman films for their more realistic and serious approach.

Technically, I would have thought a spy should act differently to this. I would have thought a real-llife spy would try his best not to make a scene.

Bond repeatedly approaches the baddies in his movies, pretending to be James Smith, or James Collins, or whatever, and usually gets captured doing exactly that. Spies are supposed to work in libraries and spend one day every three or four months performing espionage duties - boring, but ultimately realistic.

Daniel Craig does plenty of that in the new films.

He also cracks wise as of old only far more wittily than the "Carry On" style gags employed by Moore & successors.

The only thing really lacking from the old days is invisible cars & glacier destroying lasers.

& that's firmly in Austin Powers territory.

hehe not if given half the chance! He could have easily been like Moore and kept at it... :)

Thankfully tho the franchise it did get a bit of a fresh re-boot! I did read that the Bourne remake was a bit of a catalyst for that.

I really enjoyed Casino Royale...it was a nice surprise getting really into a Bond movie again!

I read what Matt Damon had said and thought what an idiot its ok to rave about your own film but why start slagging off another

All he has done is pi** off every bond fan.

All I can say is in 10 years time bourne films will not be remembered and the legacy of bond will

I think Damon should take over from Craig as James Bond.

Lets face it the only good bond film is Goldfinger and the bit in Live and Let Die when Roger Moore ran across the alligators.

I don't want to sound racist, but that's not a good idea.

I know Lazenby was Australian, and Brosnan was Republican, but having an American play him would be a step too far. We have enough talent this side of the pond to keep the franchise going long after Craig.

And Goldfinger was crap, in my opinion, as was Live and Let Die. For me, the best one pre-Craig was Me & Gold.

I like Bond and Bourne, (its a great Trilogy overall and Casino Royale is superb, I love some of the older BonRAB too) but Bond exsisted way before Bourne was in nappies. Without classics like Goldfinger, You Only Live Twice or Live and Let Die, Bourne wouldn't exist.

Me and Gold? Whats that?
Anyway in the new films, Daniel Craig is more like the Bond in the books or so I've heard, colder and less camp. He's learning, becoming a better agent (as shown at the end of CR).

Very short man?

A strange, and incorrect, word to use. (BTW, the new Bond is the same height as Bourne and both are above average height.)

There is no need for comparison anyway.

Bourne - an amnesiac assassin from a CIA black-ops program. A loner, without gadgets and cars and Government backing. No missions.

Bond - An Intelligence Officer for Her Majesty's Government. Gadgets, cars, support team, Superiors. Assigned missions.

Different people, different characters, different methoRAB.

Wasn't impressed with Quantum of Solace - just a load of set pieces with no substance.

I find the Bourne movies a bit more demanding of the viewer, and that is a good thing for me. They are certainly not boring.

Bond had become stale. And yes, they did copy elements of Bourne with Casino Royale (a good film).

Don't really agree with that.. Bourne was a gov. assassin who killed without remorse.. However the point is that having snapped out of that brainwashed state, he's now struggling to deal with the guilt. Totally different character to Bond. He certainly isn't a flashy, womanising, sharp-suited guy with a camp sense of humour.. Can't really disagree with Damon there.

There are two James BonRAB.

There is Flemings Bond as made with early Sean Connery, Tim Dalton and the excellent Daniel Craig

Then there is camp Bond with later Connery, Roger Moore and Pierce Brosnan.

There is room for both in the franchise.

Damon gets it wrong. Yes, he is a mysognist imperialistic Englishamn - but thats the attraction. Bourne is bland compared with Bond. Bond is a character so strong he can survive the change of six actors.

Damon comes across as brattish. By all means big up your own product but dont diss the oppoistion. Its not cricket.

Particularly when you admit you have not seen any Bond film since you were a child.
