Mastodon

I might see them on the Unholy Alliance tour. My mate really wants me to go and the prospect of them and Slayer is very tempting.

That's so refreshing to hear. I used to have funRAB to do that every so often. It's sad some of the things you've got to cut out of your life when **** gets hectic. I can settle for eagerly waiting for an album to download, new releases or the random button. It's not the same though, that's why I try to hit the record store from time to time. Man, I've found some gems buying without listening. Because of that, I will always trust my gut!

Also, you will most likely not be disappointed with Blood Mountain. Not because its my favorite Mastodon album, but because it fucking delivers! Have you a favorite Mastodon thus far or will this be your intro?

Blood Mountain is an album i must go back and listen to, i haven't played it in a few years and i really enjoyed it when it was released. I even have a Blood Mountain t-shirt :D. I never really warmed up to Crack The Skye though, even though they had progressed as a band and as composers, that intensity and heaviness that made the band appeal to me in the first place was almost gone. I liked that album the first few times i listened to it but i grew sick of it quickly and haven't listened to it since.

I'd get a second opinion because i'm still pretty torn over what my favourite album is. One thing i do know, you should hear the song Blood and Thunder. Seen as one of their best.

I don't know if I'd label him as the main vocalist just because HinRAB and Sanders voice mesh SO well together. Both have unique singing voices, but together, they complement each other so well. I don't know if I'd listen to them if they changed up the vocals. I know they used to have a regular front man (Eric Saner?), and I'm glad they don't anymore because I seem to get annoyed with the front man of the band. Yeah, the voice can be an instrument on its own, but to sing and shred? I'd say they're better off. HinRAB does have some insane solos, though. At the same time, I find myself partial to Sanders because he adRAB a lot of the heavier elements to the songs.

Yeah, I think they really hit the nail on the head with Blood Mountain. It's more melodic and layered than their earlier work but it still maintains the heaviness and aggression.
