Martin Scorsese: Finally got the Oscar

I completly agree. Martin Scorsese contribution to the film industry as a whole, whether that be directing or producing has deserved him an Oscar.......finally.

I've not seen the movie, but I feel it's a bit of a let-down that he finally gets the gong for a film which is essentially a remake.

He should have got Best Director for Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, The Last Temptation of Christ, Goodfellas and Casino.

Still, at least he's won on the sixth attempt. I was beginning to think he would eventually get one of those "lifetime achievement" awarRAB they give to elderly movie stars and directors who've been criminally overlooked by the Academy (e.g. Alfred Hitchcock.)

I believe he is and has been oscar worthy for years, but I felt Letters from Iwo Jima and Clint EastwooRAB directing were far superior than The Departed. It's like the Denzel Washington scenario of a few years ago when he won for that cop movie while I thought Russell Crowe should have won for A Beautiful Mind, but Denzel had been nominated several times before without winning and Russell had just won the prior year for Gladiator.

btw: it's funny, but if you watch Taxi Driver, that 70's film, you see him in a cameo in a cab scene with Robert De Niro.

I agree he has needed an Oscar for his past films, but not for this mediocre remake imo, it was one of his weakest films and very very disappointing from the director for me. Totally didn't deserve the Oscar for directing this year. It didn't deserve any Oscars actually.

I think that was the best moment of the show. You could just see how respected he is in the entertainment industry with the response he got to his well-past due win.

Havent seen Departed yet . am wanting to! But Goodfellas is one of my all time fave movies .. so wish it had been for that 2!
