Well, I just watched this. First I must say that Sofia Coppola is a wonderful filmmaker. She has a magic touch.
However, I was pretty confused with this movie, well, with Marie Antoinette herself. I don't know if the movie wanted her to be misunderstood, naive, selfish, or what.
If I don't take into consideration the little I know of Marie Antoinette and French history, I could like the movie right until the end when darkness and pain take over. It was too quick, too "oh and by the way, there was this thing called The French Revolution and it was pretty bad." Hehe.
But yes, the film looks outstanding. I didn't mind and quite loved at times Kirsten Dunst's portrayal, though I would have been interested in watching another actress take on the role. Someone like Frances O'Connor or Rose Byrne who was in the film.
Overall, the first half of the movie is pretty incredible, the second half is not as solid but doesn't exactly "ruin" what came before.
