Many questions/ T5

I just got my first PDA and I'm very confused. (So first time here too.)

It appears that the T5 handles storage differently than PDA's in the past and I think that is part of what is messing me up.

I've installed a oxford medical dictionary and street atlas. After installing oxford medical dictionary the bottom section of the screen is now white instead of the 4 boxes on the sides and the buttons along the bottom. And street atlas allows me to add new maps to a particular file, but I can't access the program portion of the PDA to add it there. When I add it to the internal section of memory the program doesn't recognize it.

So I guess my questions are: is there a way to bring back the bottom part of the screen so it isn't white; is there a way to access the program memory; is it normal for hotsync to freeze when the files are large, is it normal for the direct drive to freeze the computer AND the PDA; does it mess anything up when you have to do a soft reboot; is there a place I can go to for beginners?

Thank you for your time.

First, regarding the white area in the keyboard/graffiti part of the screen....
When you installed your application there is part of the application that is called StatusBarLib.prc that also was installed. This is what the problem. Delete this part of the application. Your overall application should still function quite nicely.

Second...the T5 does not like to install large files and synch all the other files already installed all at the same time. Yes, although is it NOT normal for the hotsynch to freeze when the files is large, YES it appears to be normal for the T5. No it doesn't "mess anything up" when you have to do a softe reboot.

What I have found is installation and resynching overcomes this problem is to just install applications in parts, if possible. What I mean by this is - for instance the oxford medical dictionary probably has two parts of the application, i.e. the actual book reader and then the actual text.

Another way overcome this problem is to customize your synch process this one time until the application is installed. For example try to set as many the applications to "do nothing" for this installation synch process.

As far as a place for beginners....you have found a pretty good place here....I have only been here for a relatively short period, I have found this arena very helpful and people here are extremely helpful and a very willing to help....you just gotta ask and someone will jump in to help out....

Thank you so much for the quick reply.

I've located the said file. I told hotsync that the computer overides the T5 for back-up and deleted the file from the back-up file in the username's back-up file.

I should have asked first if this is a good way to do it. I can't see any of the installed parts on the T5 itself because of the two types of memory I mentioned earlier.

Well, after I hotsync'ed the T5 came up with this error.

Emul68kmain.c,line:438 line1010 exception at address 0073ABFE

I reboot and it's working fine, but the graffiti area is still missing.

I'll read through the other posts again and see if I can familiarize myself with the lingo and such. Well, I did look at them all a few days ago, but it was 3am when I finally found this place and I don't know if I actually read them.

Thanks again.

EDIT: I was able to google the file name you gave me and found that this along with appsliprotate.prc are normally on T5 but some programs don't realize it and overwrite it. I deleted both from the back up, did a hard reset, and hotsync'ed. Everything is working nicely now. This has also solved some of my other problems with street atlas. YEA!!! Now I don't have to take this pretty thing back!

see this is an ongoing learning process for all of us...I learn as I help you and vice versa....

I have also leanred that if you are able to take advantage of the internal card more that will help with the overall process. Why, just this morning I learned that I could finally get my Advantgo to function properly by going into preferences of the AGCONNECT and have the majority of the files and the news pages go to the internal card...and VIOLA my Advantgo is functioning well now...

Come back when have more problems or issues and I am confident someone will be able to help you.
