Mamma Mia!

I went to see it last night and loved it! I went with my family (luckily booked seats as every seat was taken). I've never laughed out loud as I did watching the film, I thought all the actors were great there was certainly no weak link. I really enjoyed Amanda Seyfried and Meryl Streeps duet on the song "slipping through my fingers" - There were a few weeping people during that scene.

One thing that i'd never seen before was such an atmosphere in the cinema, usually you sort of forget that your sharing a film with a group of people but in this one we were all clapping, laughing a lot and there were a few dancers in the aisle! Bought the soundtrack CD this morning and i'll be seeing it again Tuesday night!

Very funny, great music and a great cast what more could you ask for!? If anyone hasn't seen it yet go see it you won't regret it!
 
Ha! I finally watched this film on DVD last night, having seen the show in the West End orginally and listened to the theatre soundtrack more times than I can count.

I'm basically torn in two. I think on the whole I enjoyed the film, but it could have been so much more.

Casting people who can't sing in a musical is ridiculous, and casting two old women who can't sing and are nothing like the theatre characters (Julie Walters and the horrid thin and wrinkly one with the big face) almost ruined the film for me. However, the jokes and the script are still perfect, and the musical numbers with the ensemble involved were excellent. It's just a shame that only Sophie had the singing ability to carry the individual songs (and she had an american accent *grr*).

Meryl streep is brilliant.
Pierce brosnan's singing is :eek: but had the entire cinema in stitches.
Odd that Colin Firth is pretty posh when he speaks but he when he sings he sounRAB like Lily Allen:rolleyes:
You have to ignore the fact that it looks like its set post 2000, the daughter is 20 but mum's lovers were clearly dresssed in 70's clothes.. maybe it was a really long pregnancy:D
 
Mamma Mia was just awful, I can't believe I managed to sit through it to the end. Perhaps it was in the vain hope that it would get better or make me laugh. Mostly it just made me cringe. The plot ???? was absolute garbage and the casting was appalling. The only person in the cast who could sing was the daughter.

Meryl Streep - what the hell was she doing in this film? Julie Walters - horrible singing
Pierce Brosnan - dreadful, looked embarrassed throughout
Colin firth - sexy and tuneless as a plank of wood
The Swedish guy - just creepy

I used to like ABBA songs (sung by ABBA) but not horrible cover versions of them sung by inferior singers.

There is plenty of talent on broadway and in the theatre, actors who can sing and dance, why the hell didn't they choose them? why choose people just because they are famous?

Can't believe I managed to stick it out to the end without hurling something at the screen.
 
I loved this film. Wasn't going to go, looked far too silly and cheesy for my liking but I'm SO glad I did. It's great, so funny and heart-warming, plus I adored all the ABBA songs and most of the actresses and actors. Meryl Streep is a Goddess! When I grow up I want to be just like her :D:cool:
 
Haven't managed to stomach either the show or the film (much as I love Colin Firth).

If I want to hear ABBA songs, I'll listen to ABBA....

Ditto Queen with We Will Rock You and the other endless list of cheapo Musicals- By - Numbers.
