Yeah, I think it was meant to be disturbing...so much of the dares they did had that factor to it.
 
I definitely think it's one of those "interpret it on your own" endings, but though it's darker, I choose to believe that they did die in the cement. I noticed that the cinematography when they're older looks very fantastical and dream-like, so I thought that's like "What would've happened if they had grown old together", but that either way, they ended up together - and happy.
 
I loved this movie. Guillaume Canet and Marion Cotillard have so much chemistry in it... and the cinematography is gorgeous. Great plot.
 
I'm not for the whole, 'we love each other so much, let's kill ourselves so we can always be together' kind of 'happy ending' - nothing about that is happy, if you ask me.

And to see them still pulling the same dares when they were old, I could definitely see that happening.
 
That is a wonderful scene. :D

I think the ending was made to show that they could never be happy and fine for a long period of time, so instead of "losing" each other again, they found a way to be together forever.

I appreciate the ending's message, but it was too much, I think. It's not only depressing but disturbing. But maybe that was the idea...
 
Okay, so I've had this movie for quite some time, but just last night found the time to watch it. It marks the first time I've watched a movie all the way through with subtitles, but I really followed it well. I thought this movie was definitely original. The style was gorgeous. The love story was unlike so many others I've seen. I loved how passionate and raw it was, yet borderline creepy at times, given the outcomes of their dares. As for the ending...I'm thinking they died together in the cement. It's just, why would they want to kill themselves, since they'd finally gotten the sense in their heads they wanted to be together. Granted, they each had other families by then...but not feeling the 'Romeo&Juliet' type ending. I'm thinking the 'old age/nursing home' stuff was either to show us 'what could/should have been'...there were flashes of many kisses between the two of them, starting with what looked like their wedding going back to their first kiss, with other moments of them kissing where they didn't actually in the movie, but should have. Or maybe it was them in heaven...the fact they ended up together, happy, and in love in heaven, where they're still playing the game. :look:

And yes, that actor who played grown up Julien, so hot! :sigh:



I beyond loved that! Just how long his tangent was, comparing her being much better than all those things and more...to have someone love you that intensely...just amazing! :sigh:

I agree. I did like the cement one, and I think that if it had ended like that without the other option I wouldn't have minded, but out of the two I'd prefer the growing old together, because the cement thing is just a tad too crazy for me.

Yes, I did like the movie a lot. and I just saw a promo on tv (it's gonna air on a channel here soon) and it made me giggle. I never giggle.
 
I haven't seen this in a long time but I have to say, that the line, "10 years is a long time" was heartbreaking and soo romantic. The look on both their faces...... It's haunting.
 
I saw this movie last night. I thought it was great and wondered what it would be like to have a friend like that my whole life. :)

One of the best movies I have ever seeen!!!Original, funny, touching, emotional, cruel at the same time!!!!And I loved the end!!!I think it was a great way to show that when you trully love someone time and space are of no importance!!!!!In the greek topic we discussed it for days!!! ;) ;) ;) ;)
 
I know! :lol:

What really gets me about the movie is that it was more passion than love that drove together time and time again.

It's such a bizarre relationship and the outcome so extreme. French movies really liked to go with a bang! All the French films I've watched have had some powerful endings.
