No :P Because of my watching the movie again.


I don't agree on this (don't kill me!). Movies are supposed to imitate life and even though it seems highly weird for two people to end up in cement, it's possible. Everything can happen, just like in the movies (at least the good ones). People can evolve... or not. Both paths exist.
 
Now, I know this may not be the traditional way of looking at it, but I always chose to believe that their final scene was a metaphore. They did cement their love. And then they grew up together. Otherwise, who does that? No matter how far they'd taken things before, who does that to themselves, nevermind the other person?

So, yeah, I may be totally wrong, but I choose to believe it was a metaphore. There's an expression in French that says "couler dans le béton," which not only translates to cementing something but also uses the same exact material in the expression. So I choose to believe it was a metaphore. :D
 
Nice to know I'm not the only person who knows of this movie.. This is the only foreign movie I own on DVD actually. Love me if you dare made me believe in true love. Great acting and especially loved the youngsters at the beginning :)

I just... I believe that, in movies, something always happens, people always change. They conquer fears, they learn a lesson, they stretch themselves a little, they suffer tremendous pain... whatever it is, something always happens. You start from point A and, by the time the credits roll, your at point B. And something happened in between the two.

And if those two went down that manhole and let the cement take them... then nothing happened. Nothing changed. They self-destructed. And that's not a movie. Things change in a movie. The evolve, they get out of control, they fizzle... but something always happens.
 
They really were. Guillaume and Marion have amazing chemistry as these two!
 
That just about sums it up. :lol: Though, I'd have to add, romantic, as well. :love:
 
It was cute, and I liked it, but not as much as I thought I would've. I think it's because I didn't really understand the ending :shrug: anyway I don't remember much of it anymore, it's been a long time since I watched it.

I saw some icons for it earlier on - I'll try to find it again, post it here :glow:

Aw I LOVE this movie, it's one of my favorite French films. Guillame Canet and Marion Cotillard are amazing, and this movie is so sweet, funny, emotional, dark, and interesting. The shots are gorgeous.

I think it's clear we're meant to at least think they're allowed themselves to die by cement. The movie starts out telling you that's what they did and you see them in the manhole, with the cement slowly rising. But I don't care. They leave the door open for a more metaphoric interpretation and that's the door I choose to take.
 
I caught the movie on TV a couple weeks ago, right after Sophie runs out of the library and goes away in a bus. So I missed the beginning but I more had the impression that they grew old together this time. I think it's because the beginning could make you think they did end up in the cement.
