I was not talking about bells cottage policy and said.

As far as retentions go all you have to say is can you give me a deal you don't need a reason. Times have changed.

Soo....if you are sharing the subscription all you have to do is call the other person and have them on the line to check the location ID numbers and stuff?

Location ID doesnt prevent sharing at all then does it? Cant you just have the bell operator on your home phone and the person you are sharing with on your cell phone or msn or something...?

thanks....

The programming package doesn't matter...

All the receiver that don't "dial out" when BEV tries to obtain the information on the receivers are placed on a list to be called by SAT.
The system then classifies the "TO CALL" list by the number of receivers they have, clients having more receivers being placed at the beggening of the list.

If, for example, someone calls and tell the agent (who answers at 1-888-SKY-DISH) that he just go to the lake, and he lost all programming, they show up in red in the guide, the agent has to transfer the call to the SAT departement who will proceed an immediate verification. Of course, since client is at the cottage all other receiver (which can not be verified at the time) will be deactivated. If SAT group is closed at the time of the call the agent should deactivate all the other receivers, add the SAT group tag, give the SAT group number to the client and advise him to call during buisness hours.

Typically SAT group, since there is so many clients on the " TO BE CALLED" list, doesn't do more than 2 verifications per year per client.
In most cases it is actually 1 verification per client per year.

1 verification could mean more than 1 call... Once the number is out in the list they have to call until they make the desired verification. After X amount of call with no response (or being ignored by the client) they have to deactivate part of the receivers. Those deactivated receivers could only be restarted by SAT group and only when proceeding throught a verification.

If there is a SAT note (notes from SAT group) the agents are not supposed to make any retention offer to the client. The note shows like a big red sticker on the account so agents can not miss it. Of course, there will always be a few incompetent that leill igbnore it and givce the client a retention deal

Reading this thread, SAT team has been mentioned various times. What does SAT stand for? Is it an acronym? What are their business hours? I would imagine that there are people who work shift work, or are unable to answer their phone or call back during the standard Mon-Fri 8AM to 6PM time frame. Friends of ours are in this situation, although they are with Rogers, so it is irrelevant for them.

For my part, I have been with BellTV for 6

If there is a note from the SAT group, how many times a year can Bell call the customers to "verify" the location ID.? Is there a Maximum # of times, before it could be counted as harrasment.?

glu the thing to remember the bell operator does not know the number to your motor home or where the receiver is..You can't give them the ID # if your not at home.

A few issues with that approach. First, the location codes are changed frequently, so it doesn't work to, for e.g., write them down for future use. Second, I think there was a post from some Bell insider that one of the protocols when a call is made for location i.d.s is to carefully listen for other calls, i.e. don't make the cell phone call to get the other i.d.s while still holding the other phone. Third, if the other person isn't around when you call, you won't be able to provide the i.d. and Bell will "deauthorize" the receiver.

Since SAT is a small departement and there is lots of accounts "to be verified" they usually don't go the verification more than twice a year

I am not a Bell employee but wonder just exactly how many people are actually called by Bell to verify? Thanks Agent for your input. To me, it would seem that Bell has almost 2 million customers (of course not all share their account) but can't see Bell making a ton of calls each day just to verify. Has anyone here on this forum actually been called by Bell?

SAT:Service assurance team. The departement is opened from 10 to 10 Monday to Saturday. Closed on Sunday

I have been with BellTv for 5 years. I originally had 2X3100 that were never connected to a telephone line an installed by a Bell tech. Never got a call to inventory my receivers. I changed my 2X3100 for a single 5900 rental, so therefore installed by a Bell tech. I then added another 5900, that time, self installed, and never got a call from Bell. I added a 9200, installed by a Bell tech, not connected to a telephone line, and still didn't get a call from them. I sold my 2X5900 and bought a 9242, self installed, and so far, never got a call from them.

The technicians usually don't enforce BellTV's policies that each receiver must be connected to a telephone line. Therefore, even if the receivers are installed by one of their technians they don't take for granted that you are not "sharing" your suscription or using it at the cabin or cottage. If your receivers don't "dial out" , no matter if you self installed or if you got a professional installation you will be put on the "to call" list of SAT team.

Your satellite "receiver" is just that, a receiver and does not broadcast back to the satellite or have any sort of GPS device embedded in it so the only way to "track" its location is if you plug in the phone line and it will dial "home" (for inventory updates, sending PPV charges, etc).

On older units, the Location ID is calculated based on a formula that combines the current time (UTC - date & hour) and the receiver ID and it changes every hour.

On newer units it changes every 10 minutes and I do not believe the formula is known as to what is used to calculate it, although it could be the receiver number, date, time and minute.(or some other factor that makes it differ from the old units)

As stated, Bell will call now and then to verify that you have all the receivers listed on your account at your current location by asking for this information and to verify you have current firmware. Typically they call only if you do not have the phone line connected and use "inventory verification" as the reason.

Edit: It is important to note that since the LID is based on time, if you do not have the satellite feed connected/working, the time on the receiver may not be accurate and therefore the LID will not be accurate. For most this isn't an issue, but if you have one that you don't use regularly this could come up and will likely confuse the CSR unless you mention it isn't connected.

Taxtwit or anybody really:

Soo the main two things to get by the call is....Dont pick up the phone and let Bell leave a message soo you can call back at a better time(ie..when everybody is available).....and when you call not to have the other person on the line....Do it by MSN.....

Barter? What is the other way to get by...didnt understand your post...

i had dishnetwork ordered before but never got the call...think theres probably too many subscribers to it for them to want to waste their time....

They can't enforce this policy. I would mean about 75% of all installations would be cancelled. They can't afford to follow the policy, as they only get paid for the work they do.

Also Bell can't afford the Techs to enforce it either, think of the loss in revenue.

I think we will see a similar situation at some time in the future where Bell charge an extra fee if the receiver is NOT connected to a working phone line. Just like Dish Network do in the States.

I've had my 3 receivers since Bell TV as selling the 2700's new. I received no calls the first few years, and then I started getting the calls. They started a 1 per year and hit a max of 8 in one year, and have now dropped to 2 calls last year......

Btw, I feel sorry for those of you that still work for BELL.

Yes, I'm an EX BEV installer.

cipherap15, you are asking, on a Public Forum, how to steal from Bell TV. I do not think it is a very wise course of action and it is against the rules of this Forum.

As Barter says, there is a very easy way to avoid the calls from Bell TV asking for Location ID.
