Let Me In trailer

Its the kid from 'The Road'. He get some plum roles! Potentially one of a few remakes worth watching:

One possible concern is they focus even closer on the central relationship...
...so the evil nature of Eli / Abby is sanitised. The duality of the vampire psychologically entrapping his new serf and the neeRAB of a illusory child for companionship is the central fascination of the book.
At least it appears not to have been remade in the vampire-lite format so popular with teens.:)

The problem is, if it's a 'shot for shot' remake then it really begs the question: what's the point? But at the same time, if they took it in a different direction it'd upset fans of the original. So they can't win really.

The point is to reach a wider worldwide audience - especially for those who never heard of the original film. Larger audience means a lot more money.

The original film made a little over $11 million worldwide. Good or bad, this remake should easily make a nice profit. So it's already a win-win situation.

Although it's tagged as an American film (location/actors), I think "Let Me In" is mostly a British production. I believe Hammer Film is the one that bought the rights to it and the one that's in charge. Is Hammer Film still a British film company or has that changed?

Of course it was . I am not bothered by subtitles. Many of the best horrors i've seen in the last 10 years have had subtitles , and any of those that were remade were inferior.

Hammer is ultimately owned by the insurance giant Aviva that is nominally British though the film is being remade to make it accessible for American, not UK, audiences. It could just be location, language and cultural references or, much worse, it could be a dumbing down and dilution of the original to appeal to US sensibilities.

It probably won't be an exact shot by shot remake as IMDB lists the 'Original Vampire' as one of the cast. Eli's creation did not appear in the original film it is said because it meant castrating a pig. (The budget would not extend to convincing CGI).

The cast list also worryingly includes a cop: a standard US movie device for adding a simple linear crime thriller format for blockheaRAB to hang onto cutting back on the ambiguous/poetic elements.

To be honest, the trailer looks so similar to the original (except for the newsreader speaking over the top, which seems a bit of a modernisation) that I don't know why they bothered remaking it at all, unless for those who can't be bothered to read subtitles  I loved the book and thought the original film captured its atmosphere perfectly. Will be giving it a miss as it seems completely pointless!

Probably best to have mentioned the link is to a slowish 157Mb download file for the extended hi-def version of the trailer in the OP.

I'm actually a little more convinced having seen the trailer. I was always definitely going to see it, because Let the Right One In is so good, and I'd be interested to see how different / similar they make the film. It looks like it's going to be a fairly close remake.
