Hammer is ultimately owned by the insurance giant Aviva that is nominally British though the film is being remade to make it accessible for American, not UK, audiences. It could just be location, language and cultural references or, much worse, it could be a dumbing down and dilution of the original to appeal to US sensibilities.
It probably won't be an exact shot by shot remake as IMDB lists the 'Original Vampire' as one of the cast. Eli's creation did not appear in the original film it is said because it meant castrating a pig. (The budget would not extend to convincing CGI).
The cast list also worryingly includes a cop: a standard US movie device for adding a simple linear crime thriller format for blockheaRAB to hang onto cutting back on the ambiguous/poetic elements.
