Legal One Piece Streaming Canceled Indefinitely due to leak (update: uncancelled)

Marvelous news, obviously. I will be watching. I saw episode 391 on Friday.

Hopefully the trend continues and more A-list stuff gets this sort of treatment. Between this, FMA, and the upcoming Gundam Unicorn, I'm really glad this kind of thing is growing as opposed to being limited to a titan like Naruto.

You're forgetting these are japanese businessmen. They, for the most part, are horriblely on the book. With the way animes are sponsored, someone is going to complain a lot and they have to comply.

What on EARTH are you guys talking about?

We go from thinking FUNi will get a slap on the wrist to thinking they'll have subs pulled temporarily to thinking they'll lose ALL their licenses to thinking they'll go into BANKRUPTCY?

This whole thing isn't THAT big of a deal.

Or it's just acknowledging the reality of the audience, as awful as it is. I myself never watched streams but 391 was clear enough a starting point in light of sitting through an hour or so the Thriller Bark marathon at Fanime this year, wikipedia fact-checking, and the last time I talked to one of my cousins who is so going to get a lecture on fansubs next time we meet.

BLASPHEMY! Luffy must wear red. IT IS THE LAW AS I HAVE PROCLAIMED FROM UP ON HIGH!

...

And wow FUNi really IS pimping this out, aren't they? Teh interwebz are FULL of aRAB. One Piece may have gotten a second (third? fourth?) wind, boys!

When one of the biggest shows in Japan that just happens to be theirs is leaked across the internet, in this case FUNi having to take responsibility for, and they are allowing FUNi to do this.

Yeah, pretty bad.

It's rather stunning to me how many people are willing to assume the maximum worst-case scenario based on next to nothing. The issue at hand here is streaming video. I suppose it's possible that could be screwed up, but seriously, worrying about the entire license getting dropped? On the internet bad rumors are inevitable, but I'd just as soon not start any in here.

Obviously, there are security issues that are going to have to be worked out before it starts again...let's just hope the situation can be improved well enough for all parties concerned. Because in addition to Toei, people stealing FUNimation's own video are basically stealing money right out of their pockets. The stream isn't free, it's supported with advertising revenue.

Toei is notorious for their ovvereactions and disregard of the foreign marketplace. Them pulling the license is probable, if not extremely likely.

Were it any other company, no streams still new security is in place, probably a 1-2 day wait. Toei? NO more streams, ever. Forever ever.

While I'm loving FUNi for this, the big problem will be that it is with that FUNimation Video Player which is slower than any other web player, including Anime Network. They really need to switch to something similar to Crunchyroll or Toonami Jetstream. Heck, even Hulu, which does go slow at times, is better prepared than FUNimation's.

SounRAB like the DVD's are cancelled as well, since it says we're being deprived of access to this "great anime series", rather than specifically mentioning the online simulcast. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if Toei yanked the rights to everything away from FUNi.

RomanMack would be soiling himself about now.

...wait, though. VIZ is going to be publishing the latest chapters of One Piece in Shonen Jump? You mean they're just going to...skip ahead, like, 30 volumes? Am I reading that right?

Actually, so far this won't be effecting the DVRAB. FUNimation responded on their Twitter stating that this is only concerning the online videos right now.

Just so we're on the same page, I didn't do anything wrong did I? I felt that this, along with the possible ramifications it presents were very important, so I decided to post the article.
