Legacy programming price increase - Effective April 30th

Actually some of ExVu's original subs were given packages with the contract terms stating that this would be the price for as long as they stayed current (paid up) in the sub. So, they are actually (sort of) obligated to hold the price and the package.

Guess they regret that...

I recently went from my old Ultimate 7 to HDTV all in one. After the switch I now
have a couple of local channels I never had before.

This time around I decided to rent my 9200. When I added the rental cost to me
old Ultimate 7 package it's came to $103.93....my All in One comes to $102. I
added a 7th package which takes it to $107. Included in this is the 2nd eastern
feed which I used to pay for plus the HD channels. For me the AiO was a deal.

At the time we can not add any programming on the Legacy platform...each addition should be made by switching the client to Genesis.

We could remove a service keeping the client on the Legacy platform.

Client with Legacy programming will have an increase in price of 5$ by April or May.

Client with Genesis, who already pay more for the same programming, same service had an increase in price of 4$ this February, I belive it's only fair for Bell to put thier pants and increase the Legacy clients has well. They should also according to me force those clients to all move to Genesis so that all clients have the same package.

WARNING THIS IS A HYPOTHETICAL (FAKE) LETTER!!!

Of course this is a hypothetical letter but this is what those of us on the grandfathered packages are faced with. How would you expect anyone to react after receiving such a letter no matter how they try to spin it?

Ummm...that is the current situation. Any changes to your Legacy sub requires changing to a current package.

OT, but in regards to the above post ....

I looked into one of the alternative dsl providers here in town and their cap on downloads was a good enough reason for me not to switch from my 'unlimited' download with Sympatico.

Plus, being locked in for 12 mos at a time, I get a nifty price break.

It's a win/win.

i get people in every day looking at switching, and in most cases, our pricing is still on par, even AFTER rogers discounts.

Rogers:

NEW VIP cable package- $58.97 + $2.99 (Digital Service Fee) + (price increase March 1st).
High Speed Internet - $46.95
Home phone and 4 features - $41.95 plus a SAF of $4.25

Total $155.10, less 10% for bundle for a total payable of $139.60.
Bonus offers: $15 online credit if you order your home phone service online and $8.98 discount per month for 12 months on your cable service package.
Total Credits = $122.76.
Total cost of service over 2 years = $3227.64
Average monthly cost over 2 years = $134.49

A decent package, but you are still stuck with the channels they give you, and that package doesn't even include TSN (for some reason, perhaps because it's owned by Bell???).

Bell:

Digital Essentials - $54
High Speed Internet - $41.95 (2 year contract rate)
Home phone and 4 features - $37.95 (basic line of $22 plus Flex4 for $15.95)

Total: $133.90
Bonus offers: nothing for home phone service (not allowed due to CRTC regulations), $16.95 discount on internet for first 3 months, $27 discount on TV service for first 6 months.

Total Credits: $212.85
Total Cost of service over 2 years: $3000.75
Average monthly cost over 2 years: $125.03

Bell, in this comparison (which is a fairly good comparison), will be an average of $9.46 per month LESS expensive than Rogers when factoring in the sign up promotions. Even if you don't factor in sign up promotions, Bell is still 59 cents per month LESS than Rogers, and remember this is AFTER the 10% discount Rogers gives you...as i already stated, in most cases, the savings they offer in their bundles are perception, not reality...they are simply giving you a discount on a service that is already more expensive.

Why would HD customers sub to the US networks? They get them in HD with the HD pack. I don't sub to them now. EV wants me to pay for the SD networks twice, whether I want the SD versions or not. I don't need most of the Canadian SD nets in Digital Essentials either.

I'm actually kind of interested in this. How much does Evu have to pay for a particular channel, either HD or not? Is it based on subscriptions or a flat fee or does it vary from channel to channel? Since HD could still be considered a niche, will the fee Evu has to pay remain static or gradually decrease as more people jump on the HD bandwagon?

Ya, and I suggest leaving it like that. Eventually there will be enough new channels appear that most will want to upgrade to get them. The ones that don't are probably going to adjust their packaging to keep their cost down anyway.

Thanks for clearing that up SensualPoet.

I recently switched from Rogers to BEV and didn't encounter any contract hassles even though I had recently started to bundle a few of their services. Like you said, I paid back the savings and I was on my merry way sans penalties.

Many responses from BEV associates (for lack of a better word) seem to defend their own policies by pointing out the competition does the very same thing. Problem is, their statements aren't always accurate.

So my bill was $27 now upto $39...

Had the basic plus one free theme pack for 2 years. Now my basic is $31 plus $8 for the theme pack.

Just how high will these packages go???

Going to cancel my 1-theme pack becaue this is getting out of control...

Cheers!!!

No. But it WILL be allowed.

I think you haven't understood the essence of the Legacy price increase. The clients that have old packages are the ones who started Bell Expressvu. Expressvu does not want to lose them.

Maybe you should also get your information better and read what was said earlier on the threads.

My 2 cents.

^ new customers are now capped at 30 GB per month with sympatico high speed service...existing customers still enjoy unlimited bandwidth (for now at least, no word if that is changing).

there are good 3rd party ISP's out there, but there are also plenty of crappy ones...teksavvy seems to be the best independent ISP i have seen.

I don't know what policies you think we defend by saying other compagnies does the same. The only time I used a similar statement was in referrence to that price increase and yes, in that case it was true, other compagnies had price increase too.

You entirely missed the point, which was that there were NO PROMOS (hardware purchases) offered to existing subs sent out to all existing subs since 1998...

There was no complaint about paying more as an early adopter.

quarterly price increases?

hmmm...assuming you have had your package for the past 8 years, you have had 32 price increases have you?

It seems to me that forcing repeated price increases on customers is the act of a company trying to get rid of customers, not trying to keep them. Let's see, an $11 increase in less than a year, plus another $9 increase when moving to Genesis. That makes a 30% increase in less than a year. Way to go ExpressVu?! That's the way to keep customers.

I'm in the same boat. Sure, I'd get a handful of additional channels, but nothing that I actually want or would watch.

It would be nice if we did actually get a la carte programming so we don;t have to choose a theme that has only one channel of any value in it just so BEV increase their subscriber base for pointless channels.

it's always going to be tough to compare for someone who has HD as a theme pack...the pricing will always be in your favour, as it was a billing error you have been able to keep for years.
