Lark Rise To Candleford Series 3

Evening all,
:) I just had to watch the little LRtC section on countryfile and its good news, Matt definately said LRtC will be back on our screens next year :) but we already knew that!!! whoo hoo cant wait!
Take care :D

I have to admit that after watching the show I read the book as well! I notticed that although the writers tend to use names from the book they normally use them in totally different contexts, like I think James Dowland was mentioned somewhere but he was Lauras Uncle.

I totally agree, hope Dorcas stays and and has a romance! As geogchick said hopefully that will mean series 4..

I'm a ladeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!

It is a bit coarse but really entertaining! I think it's nice that you have disproved an old British theory that Americans don't understand British humour!

On the subject of British shows, have you seen any of the following?:

Doctor Who
Merlin
Robin Hood
Tess of the D'urbevilles
Little Dorrit
Bleak House
Spooks
Sea of Souls?

it would be interesting in finding out what you think!
(Please don't be too harsh on Doctor Who as I absolutely love this show!)

Timothy loved the post office and spent all his free time there. I'll bet Laura writes to him and tells him of the threat to the post office and he swoops in to save the day!
(Sorry, my imagination is running off with me again...)

I don't think it could be Ruby's Pontefract man--didn't she say he was an undertaker?

Oi SS - Do you mean me? :p For the record I do know what daft happorth means :D

I didn't like the first episode :(

Didn't get all the endeavoring. And have I missed the episode where Dorcas becomes sentimental

Loved Thomas, Ruby and Minnie as always tho.

Glad you're back safely Idlecat :)

Oh and I see JS is on that cack GMTV sometime this week.

I'm about a third of the way through your story and enjoying it. :) The company I work for is giving us Friday and Monday off and I'm leaving work a little early today to drive up and spend the extra long weekend with family up outside of Fort Worth. Plenty of time to sit back and leisurely read your tale of love. {{sigh}}

PS. Watched the episode where Lady Adelaide comes back and questions Dorcas about if Sir Timothy asked her to marry him. It was late last night so I feel like I didn't quite get what all they said to each other. Will let you know...

Now you mention it, yes. Perhaps not so surprising though. Margaret's father was the vicar and was presented as an unfeeling tyrant, at least in his dealings with her. His son was a supporter of Darwin's theories as is Robert, and Dorcas is interested enough in Darwin to have him on her bookshelves.

I haven't studied Flora Thompson nor read the books on which LRTC is based (not a fan of Victorian literature though do occasionally dip in and may get round to this eventually) - it's possible she herself was a Darwinian. Certainly Laura, who is based on herself, admires Dorcas so we might assume she shares some of her views?

Or perhaps it's just that Flora Thompson was writing about old values at a time of great change, and focused on country traditions which for the Lark Risers wouldn't have included regular church attendance? We're told more about country superstition and encouraged not to undermine it, if not actually to believe it.
