Lark Rise To Candleford Series 3

In fairness to Robert, I think his telling Emma to know her place wasn't some "get in the kitchen and cook my dinner, woman" thing; more just warning her not to think she is better than the other people of Lark Rise.

He was a bit silly over Emma's joke about his not dancing though.

Good morning Lark Risers:) I arrived back in the UK early Sat morning after a long stay in the Canaries. We have most uk tv stations there and wifi ( on and off) so have been able to keep up with your old thread ( thanks BM)
So now back home, it's lovely to be amongst you all again, my 'puter was playing up yesterday but seems to have sorted itself out now - I was dying to join in yesterday but could only read all your posts.
Welcome to all the new Lark Risers, you will LOVE this thread! Nice to see you posting too Julia, you are looking very svelt in this series:)
So pleased I was home in time to watch our first episode.
Didn't we think that the first one last year was a bit strange? maybe it didn't gell so well because they were introducing the characters for new viewers to the series.
Yes I still loved it, and it did puzzle me, the name thing and I immediately wondered why Dorcas wasn't also a beneficiary.
It can probably be explained, years ago families were as complex as they are today but of course it was all swept under the carpet. My own mother has her Grandmothers maiden name as her mother used it also.It was all vey complicated, my Irish Great Grandfather lived with one sister and after she died married the other. This was only discovered after a family search ad believe me if you ever do one it's only worth doing the female side, all the scandals are hidden if you just research the family name.

Minnie was magnificent, I think she is even more of a comedy actress than her mother .
I loved all the "endeavoring" - wonderful!
No I don't like Daniel but I think that is in the book, I shan't mind if he doesn't return but I fear he will.
What has happened to Alf's sweetheart ( can't remember her name)?

This week I need to re- read all the books AND watch series 1 and 2 again.
:):):):):)

I wondered about Nan and thought it was bad that she wasn't mentioned. I suppose in those days, as now, young people got together and then drifted apart, but still I thought she would have got a mention.

The song storyline was a bit thin but they didn't have telly in those days and telly affects people's thinking.

I did enjoy last night's episode. It was only last week's that I found laborious. I hope this series continues well and then maybe it will come to a natural end, there are only so many stories of countryfolk which they can get out of this meagre book. I must say I have generally enjoyed the tv series better than I enjoyed the book but I do like fiction. The book provided a good basis for it of course.

Regarding Sidney's father, I imagine he would be sent for and that scene we saw at the end, with Sidney very ill, was before his dad had had time to arrive.

I love all the characters.

:mad::mad::mad:

Been doing my family tree all afternoon and just realised I've gone down the wrong branch and had to delete most of it...........why was everyone last century called George, William, Mary and Sarah..................... and had my surname:confused:..............Think I'll change my name to Dibber:D::D:p

sorry if this is old news but is it known whether Sir Timothy & Lady Adelaide return this series? I was just reading an article from a few weeks ago (taken from Guardian) where it talks about Olivia Grant (who plays Lady Adelaide) and it says this: "It's a far cry from her role as the very proper Lady Adelaide, reprised this January in the third series of Lark Rise, after a year away playing the disappearing PA Grace Darling in Channel 4's Personal Affairs".

That was, as you say E31, superb. It was the first episode this series where I enjoyed every single minute of it, even beats the measles ep which I loved, but this ep harped back to previous 2 series.......excellent..............Pearl delivers I knew she would.........but so did everyone else this week :D:D:D:D:D

Lot of catching up to do NM:D
Get S2 as soon as you can, you'll meet Mr JD, proprietor of The Golden Lion Hotel and father of Sidney and Nan prospective love of Alf, who has since disappeared off the face of the earth:D:D

LOL!! I know! I wish I could find old archives somewhere! I've heard the last three week's worth and am still figuring out who's who. Right now I'm hoping Lilian dumps Matt and goes for Paul. ;) Oh, and Pip neeRAB to dump Jude, too. :D
