Lark Rise To Candleford Series 3

I fell a little behind with the episodes and therefore this thread, and I just wanted to say when I last popped in I read a comment that Alf just did not need someone as silly as Minnie in his life given all he has to deal with. While I have no particular affinity to the coupling, I think she is exactly what he neeRAB, at least for the now. His whole life is responsibility and obligation. He bares it well, but he has given up his youth and freedom in order to care for his family and he does so gladly. Minnie with her naivete and sense of childlike wonder at the world takes him out of his problems and when he is with her, he is just Alfie, he regains some of the boy that was him at the start of LRTC.
She gives him that very precious gift and I think that is why he has fallen for her and why she is good for him.

Whether it works out who knows? But for now, she gives him a little release from his very adult life.

Thanks for wanting to read it, hannah7! :D I've been putting my heart and soul into it hoping to get it right--at least in the way my fevered imagination is interpreting their history together and how I would like to see them end up. If you would like me to send you what I've written so far feel free to email me at [email protected] :) I'm at work right now and won't be home for another seven hours (ugh!) so wouldn't be able to send anything until then.

I'm afraid, for me, this was the least interesting episode of the series. I just don't find Daniel or Laura all that interesting and I just didn't care about the gossipy mother and her pregnant daughter whom we've never even seen before. Didn't care who got her pregnant. There were some wonderful scenes with Dorcas, Minnie and Alf, Queenie and Twister, though, which brightened up the episode for me! Nice to see Alf coming 'round to the idea of Minnie! :D

Hello everyone, Im new to the lark rise RAB threaRAB but I love lark rise its a great programme and gives me something to look forward to every sunday. Do you guys mind if I post on here? You seem to have a tight knit community so i wouldn't want to intrude.

Angelheart, thanks for your input on this thread, I hope the discussion doesn't seem too negative. I know a lot of us are moaning a bit about the writing but I think that is because we have grown to love the characters in Lark Rise and want to see a progression of their stories. We also know that the actors are brilliant at what they do and would love to see more depth to the plots so that they have a bit more to get their teeth into.

It's interesting to hear how late the BBC recommission each series though, that puts some of the things we have noticed into a bit more context, thank you.

Hi all

I'm here as a favour for my Mum :)
She missed the last episode of the series, and wonders who the child is that's living with Julia Sawahla's character?
If anybody could help i'd appreciate it. Then I could make an old lady very happy lol

Well, I thoroughly enjoyed LRTC last night! It was lovely to just sit back, relax and watch something so comforting (like wrapping a warm blanket around one!). :)

I found the antics of Margaret and our trumpet playing postman absolutely hilarious (poor Margaret - I thought she might hit him with the skillet at one point instead of putting it under the bed! Might have knocked some sense into him!) :) And Emma and Robert - by 50 minutes in I was pleading with them to just TALK to each other!

But it was brilliant (and that shower/bath thing was utterly awful - in a hilarious way. My god, I am so glad I live with modern conveniences!).

Oh, and I sympathise with you, Angelheart - the snow has been pretty atrocious up here (in Yorkshire) too, but from the weather report this morning, it looks like the country is heading into the balmy temperatures of 0-5 this week (that would be + not -!). Yippeee! Get the barbies out! :)

What fantastic Sunday night reading!! Nice to store them up and read them en massse. Great bit with Queenie and the tea leaves, you could see it coming a mile off!! Please keep em' coming. Just put Episode 10 Series 1 in. Goodbye Zillah.

Like the magazine articles.

Ooooooooooo!! I blimming loved that episode! Alf and Minnie are just too adorable.

A beautifully superb episode again. Series 3 has been just marvellous!

Ahh, I feel all snugly and cosy after watching that. Happy Mothers day to all the Mothers here.

Episode 6: I loved this episode as it was chock full of Dorcas/Timothy moments. Loved when Timothy comes in the middle of the night asking Dorcas to hide Polly for him and she's standing there in her nightdress--and suddenly realizes she's standing there in her nightdress in front of him! Heehee! She didn't seem to mind anyone else seeing her like that as the whole household was awake due to Thomas's insomnia--only when Timothy arrives.
And when they are speaking alone in her private chamber and he says, "This whole business with Polly and Adelaide...sometimes circumstances force us to reflect..." They both look so sad knowing he's thinking of what might have been.
Loved Zillah being in a snit the whole time, too, as Polly being left behind reminded her of her own childhood. It was very revealing when Dorcas told her not to get hysterical and Zillah replies, Hysterical! Me!" points
her finger at Dorcas, "I seen her weepin' and wailin' in this kitchen! Tears and kisses! I
seen it with my own eyes! There's no denyin' it!" And Dorcas grows angry and sad and
says, "No, I can't deny it. But that was a very long time ago and you know it!" That was one hint about what happened in the past that I had to expound on in my story and write what I think happened back then that caused Dorcas to be "weepin' and wailin'" in the kitchen. That is what was so tantalizing and at the same time very frustrating about series 1--they give us so many hints at the things that happened between Timothy and Dorcas in their past without ever expanding on them.

And the best part was when Thomas mixed up the letters and gave Timothy the "Definition of Love" poem by mistake! Poor Timothy thought Dorcas had sent it to him. The poem was such a perfect reflection of their relationship and how they were kept apart by Fate---parallel lines, never to touch, never to join.
This was an episode filled with such longing and regret! One of the most memorable for me.
