Lark Rise To Candleford Series 3

6.25 million viewers last night! Lark Rise to Candleford is mesmerising and if there isn't a fourth series well then the BBC doesn't deserve to have viewers at all! It would be a sign of contempt to axe it at present especially as millions of people get a lot of pleasure from it! And it's much better than strictly come dancing on ice.

Lark Rise: in the worRAB of Dorcas Lane: "It's my one weakness!"

Lark Rise is just such a feel good show. I can't imagine them knowingly ending the series with Margaret and Thomas still pining for a child.

It is quite sickly sometimes, at least this third series has gone that way but I have stuck with it ( in vain hope that Sir Timothy would return) and enjoyed a lot of it.

There have been accusations of Lark Rise being too clean. All that soft focus lighting makes one suspicious that reality is being glossed over.

However, I'd like to defend the real-life people on whom this was originally based. From memory, Flora Thompson in her books emphasises that the hamlet dwellers, as poor as they were, did take pride in taking care of themselves and their homes and keeping everything spick and span.

The thing that bugs me is some poor continuity. An example last night was when Dorcas talking to Thomas and Laura about why Mr Blakestone held a grudge against her because she had promised to sell him the post office and reneged on the deal.

She talked as though Thomas and Laura didn't know about it and it had happened ages in the past. In fact it was a major strand of the final episode of series 1 and Thomas had played an active part in sabotaging it all by holding back the signed contract from the post. Perhaps the writers aren't LRtC obsessives like me, but surely they should immerse themselves in past series for professional reasons.

I was also a bit dubious about the railway coming (did they nick that idea from Cranford?). I would have thought, although I haven't checked this out, that most of the British railway system had been built well before the 1890s when I believe this series is set. For me, attention to detail, including historical accuracy and plausibility, do matter. (This is the BBC, not ITV!) I don't think attention to detail has a huge cost implication.

Anyway, I admit I am sulking because of Sir Timothy's no-show. The Timothy and Dorcas story has been the strongest and most real thing in all the series so far, and I thought the "tying up the loose enRAB" episode with Adelaide in this series was unsatisfactory.

Bye bye until 2011 (if I get over my sulks and decide to watch that is)

I think it'll take a few weeks to get into - for instance I don't know what to make of Daniel.....remember we all hated Ruby last year.

Was it my imagination or did Laura have a black eye in one of those scenes?!

I enjoyed it anyway:D

I love LRtC but it does have huge scope for nit-picking.

Why is it only the Lark Risers who speak like yokels, while the Candlefordians all do RP? In those days, before travel, radio and TV flattened out local accents, every community, regardless of class or income, had a regional accent. I had the same quarrel with Cranford; all those RADA-accented Dames!

Pop her clogs! LOL!!! Never heard that one before!
You're right, though--her part really has gotten a bit stale. But that would be terrible if Laura had to give up her life in Candleford to take care of her siblings. I just don't see that happening. Good grief, what a can of worms that would open if Emma does die!

Does anyone else feel that Laura is being made a less important character this series? I feel the focus is shifting. Or it might be that I can't get as interested in Laura's or Dorcas's romances any more, because I just feel a bit 'Here we go again' - I look at the journalist and think 'Oh you're just going to disappear at the end of the series, like the others before you.' I can't take to him, but I think that's just because I see him as temporary.

I agree that it was odd not to mention the boy's father at all. But otherwise I've really enjoyed the last two episodes. I'm totally hooked on what's going to happen to the Pratt sisters and Minnie and Alfie.

Oooh and I've just noticed that the Series Three DVD is released on my birthday! Haha, ACE! Hopefully the producers have realised that we all want masses of lengthy interviews with all the cast too :p

are you kidding
sundays episode was great and i agree with you about dorcas and sir tim
liar

if sidney isnt her adopted son then what do you call that (just some kid who lives with her who she just happens take cares of and love)
is that not an adopted son
just because it isnt legal and just because JD is still alive doesnt mean that sidney is not like a son to her
for god sakes the child calls her "ma"

dont worry about the goose women
she is no concern of yours :D:D:D

Just when I think this series cannot get any better, that the actors/tresses cannot throw yet another curve ball with their characters.....we get series 3!!! OMG its brilliant!! I love it so so so SO MUCH! I look forward so much to every episode and when i work at the weekend, its what i look forward to when i get home. Thank you angelheart and all the cast for another fantastic series!! :) :)
