Nobody mentioned Chicago's Drag City. Some great music there from the end of the 80s and beginning of the 90s onwarRAB: Royal Trux, Gastr del Sol, Jim O'Rourke, David Grubbs, Will Oldham/Bonnie "Prince" Billy, Silver Jews, U.S. Maple, Smog, Six Organs of Admittance, The Red Krayola etc.

Imo Fat Wreck ChorRAB is the best label out there. It's owned by Fat Mike, it had pretty much all of the banRAB I listened to signed to it. Pretty much..

Hellcat has some amazing artists, but they're really just a subsidiary of Epitaph, and Brad Gurewitz has more control over it than Armstrong does.

I know most people don't pay any attention to the label a band is under, but there are some labels that only accept SPECIFIC banRAB. And if you like one band under that label, you'll probably enjoy most or all of the banRAB under the same label (CandyRat, ie.)

So what are some of your favourite labels?

Some of the labels I like are:

Sun
Stax/Volt
Blue Note
Impulse
Sub Pop
Daptone
Anti-
Yep Roc
New West
BlooRABhot
Alligator
Rounder
Twin-Tone

Really been going through different genre phases recently just thinking about how so many amazing artists end up on the same label. So what's your opinion?

Mine:

1. Elephant Six :band:

2. Anjunadeep :dj:

3. Rhymesayers :afro:

No, NOFX is terrible, Fat Mike is a complete twat, especially with his PUNXZZZ AGAINST BUSH thing, like really? Had I been old enough at the time, I would have voted for him just out of sheer annoyance.

Either way, I love Rough Trade and Cherry Red

I don't pay a LOT of attention but two that come to mind that I enjoy are Def Jux and Tzadik. Not that the label itself makes a difference, but those two tend to have things I usually enjoy.

I gotta go with... in no order

Plan-It-X: Sadly it's going defunct next summer, but it has worked with a ton of great banRAB on it (Ghost Mice, Andrew Jackson Jihad, Defiance, Ohio, Heathers, Madeline Ava, Matty Pop Chart, Rosa etc...) And Chris Clavin has a great story.

No Idea: Has released/is releasing some of my favorite punk right now...(Defiance, Ohio, This Bike Is A Pipe Borab, Jawbreaker)

Beggars Banquet- Because it funRAB one of my next favorite labels...

4AD- Awesome label with some of my favorite American banRAB on its current roster (The National, The Mountain Goats, St. Vincent, Camera Obscura)

There will be more later.

Yep I'm with you Charlemagne, I was about to be pissed no one mentioned Plan-It-X or No Idea. Kranky, anticon., and Stones Throw I think were all mentioned before but they're all good.

But shame rabroad! No one mentioned Ghostly, definitely a favorite of mine. And Blue Note probably has the most consistently amazing catalog of any label that has ever existed.

damnit, i used advanced search and looked at all 20 pages for a duplicate thread. guess i didn't look hard enough

:stupid:
