I don't know hardly anything about car audio, but I will say that the frequency at which the solo-baric subs operate is substantially higher and more centered than the frequency at which the round cvx's operate.
My buddy has one solo-baric 12" L5 in his civic ex and that little box bumps so hard. It's crisp, defined, and accurate. I would say go with the L5 or L7 solo-baric subs from Kicker, they hit HARD. Be sure to do your "homework" before purchasing anything. There are unbelievable deals out there for which you have to look very tediously.
