Kick Ass!

Just seen it. Loved every second of it. I was surprised that it got away with only being a 15 though, with all that violence i would have expected an 18 rating, but maybe it's because it's "humourous violence".

A high 9/10 from me.

There is talk of a follow up. The film opens this weekend (I think) in the US so that should determine if it gets made.

I have nothing against the character of Hit Girl and Big Daddy. I think they work as characters but they didn't fit in with Kick-Ass.
They are a different style of the Comicbook genre. I would put them in the same area of V for Vendetta, Watchmen, Sin City etc. The non Marvel and DC comicbook films.
If they do a follow up I think they need to ditch Kick-Ass as a character as i don't believe there is enough there to sustaing two or more films.
I would take her along the lines of Rambo or Wolverine. She has moved on and got an "normal" life. Her time as Hit Girl is in the past and then something happens that she can't walk away from and so after a few years it's time for Hit Girl to make an reappearance.

I have this totally crazy idea that in my head works as to what that could be. It's basically a similar film or remake of Die Hard. She finRAB herself in a similar situation and has to stop the bad guys. There's no costume this time. She's just in her normal clothes. Somebody is taking out the team but who is it? Surely it's not that fresh faced cute kid who wants her mommy? ;)

Hit Girl is a rip off of the Hentai/Anime of Kite and Mezzo Forte that feature very young girl assassins. Jonathan Ross and his wife would know all about these characters as they are famous. Kill Bill vol 1 also features a schoolgirl rip off of these characters.

Wow, I saw this tonight. Going by what people have been saying on here I expected to love it, but nope. There were a few great moments, but overall it just didn't do it for me. I was kind of bored, but it looks like I'm in the minority.

Seen this tonight!!!

8/10 for me, maybe more if all the best bits werent in the international red band trailer!!! Its a great film but i cant believe they pretty much left nothing for the cinema goer, it truly was a case of all the best bits in the trailer!!!!

Just my opinion but i feel all these reviews saying best film of the year are slightly off the mark, however it really does have the rewatchability factor!!!!

If you havent seen this yet, try to avoid all trailers for this movie, and you really will have a blast!!!!

Hahahahahaha!!!!! :D:D:D - trust the DM to be outraged. Perhaps they should give away this demotivational poster with every copy:

Something tells me the person who wrote this "review" hasnt even watched the film. They described it as "an unimaginative clone of Spider-Man 2" - really, Spiderman 2?

Either they havent watched Kick-Ass, Spiderman 2 - or both.

I could believe it being described a bit like Spiderman 1 - especially the ending where:

the good guy kills the bad guy leaving the bad guys son full of vengence to take his place

but I think it was supposed to be - thats part of the joke - its taking the piss out of a superhero movie cliche.

That sounRAB very interesting. My initial thought was they'd have to make a sequel in the next two years otherwise it won't be Hit-Girl anymore ;) But if they just focus on HG, it changes the direction of the film if they ditch Kick-Ass (or indeed if he is trained) so maybe yours is a much better idea.

I thought sometimes why is there so much controversy over HG - she says the C word? Big deal, whileI do think it was comically shocking (I laughed and the cinema I was in did) to hear from a young girl its not as if kiRAB dont say that stuff. What about the kid in Robocop 2 swearing, dealing drugs, shooting people etc? Natalie Portman in Leon? If HG had been HB would there be so much controversy?

Managed to catch the late showing last night of this & I thought that it was great. It isn't often that I go to the cinema & purchase overpriced munchies but Kick Ass was worth every penny.

Brilliant response. Thank you for taking the time out to reply. I meant no ill, you just came across to me as someone completely missing the point.

Firstly, i didn't mean "good god" to come across as any kind of compliment, it was simply just good old fashioned shock and awe. Perhaps you missed the point?

Secondly, yes, you are older than me. Not by a great deal, i am by no means a spring chicken myself. I too grew up on action films, such as Die Hard, Indy, Predator, Commando....the classics. I too know the scene you describe in the western. At the same time, being a lover of film, i've seen many of the lesser known action films from the far east, such as A Better Tomorrow, The Killer, Hard Boiled (all John Woo). The mid-air reload you so despise, in fact that whole scene; where she takes on all the guys down the hallway, is a homage to many classic scenes from many classic gun play movies. I even posted back in this thread to get to the bottom of them all, still not quite there yet.

I feel sad for you that you find all Martial Arts films 'moronic'. To me that's like someone saying "I don't like chinese food". Really? A whole countries cuisine? Wheat from the chaff my friend.

Lets face it, Remains of the day is sh*t. I just thought The Care Bears movie would be something you could relax to as you sit in your old peoples home. But you'd probably fall asleep. ;)
