Keeping Up Appearances

I used to watch the repeats with my dad on a sunday afternoon, think it's still a classic series.

Anyone of the ones that Hyacinth 'sang at' Emmit was a winner, but I remember one in particular when she went to sing at a concert or something and sang a song from Annie get your gun, on the piano with Emmet being forced into playing for her. He ended up playing it faster and faster, as she tried to keep up with him.:p

If you havent seen the one set on the QE2 then you must
It's my favorite one ever, every bit is perfect and builds to.the ending, which is amazing.

My favorite bit is when they miss the boat and as it pulls off on the deck and Hyacinth, balls out 'stooooooooop the booat' and then she rings the ship demanding it turns round and comes back for her.

They end up having to catch it at Coperhagan, and she starts singing Rule Britainia by herself 'to protect herself and her expensive luggage' because she thinks she is going to be attacked by Danish savages, and makes Richard join in:D:

I don't think so dsimiller. His first name is enough! Where on earth did it come from? Have you ever heard of anyone else called Onslow?

I think Hyacinth did realise her son was gay, but would never admit it to anyone, especially Councillor Newgent or the Vicar!

Part of it was filmed in Leamington Spa and other areas in Coventry and Warwickshire. I saw some of it happening. Hyacinth is a classic 'grotesque' character in the theatrical sense, but I do enjoy this programme when I see it.

I don't think it's dated too badly really, compared with when I saw the 1970s Steptoes in the 90s. They did look from another century despite being 20 years' old.

Re: Onslow, I have heard of it as a surname and, I think, a type of old motorbike. Can't think of any first names though. Just think, in a primary class in the mid 90s: Kylie, Jason, Jade and Onslow. LOL. Can't think why it didn't catch on!

My favourite episode is the QE2 episode. Where Hyacinth and Richard run around the whole of QE2 looking for Daisy and Onslow who they think are stowaways (Onslow in fact won a competition which included dinner at the captain's table!)

I must have watched this at least 20 times and it just seems to get funnier and funnier each time! Pure comedy gold.

I saw it the other day - pretty funny but I was disappointed by the
absence of Richard. Hyacinth would talk to him as though he was in the direction of the audience, but he wasn't physically in it.

Do you think so? I'm not sure. However, there was at least one episode where Hyacinth became quite hostile towards her darling Sheridan and told 'Richaard' in no uncertain terms not to send him any more money. Can anyone remember more of that episode?

I'm just watching series 5 myself. Watched series 1-4 over the last week and now finishing 5. Richards birthday now.

The boating one is my favourite, although I enjoy hearing about Sheridans pearl button collection.

There was certainly reference to Hyacinth saying to Richard not to give him any more money in either ep.1,2 or 3 of series 1.

What a super series though. It reflected so many peoples' snobby ways seen in everyday life.

How do we know that Onslow is Onslow's surname? Why would he be called this by his wife?
Is Elizabeth's brother's name 'Emmett' his surname too?
Curiouser and curiouser, said Alice. :D

Actually, it is good we never met Sheriden. The comedy value was far great as we simply had to imagine what he was like. The illusion could have been shattered had we actually seen him.
