Kawasaki Ninja ZX7R Question?

Motorcycle transmissions are not like car transmissions; you don't just buy a gearbox and whack it onto the back of the motor, because the gearbox is in unit with the engine. His "transmission ready to put in" will probably be a couple of shafts with the gears on them which you will have to assemble into the existing cases, which might have to be split (I'm not familiar with whether the ZX has vertically or horizontally-split cases) which means taking the engine out of the frame, probably, and disassembling the entire thing. So I'm wondering why he didn't just buy the second-gear set, unless this "transmission" is a second-hand one bought as a whole, in which case there might be other things wrong with it.

And how do you chip a gear without abusing the bike, anyway?

Generally, experienced riders (which this type of bike was designed for) already know how the various bikes in this class stack up against each other, so I have to say that, by asking your last question, you are demonstrating to me that you should be considering something considerably smaller at this stage of your riding career. And please don't say you've ridden dirtbikes for years - there is no comparison.

I found this on craigslist, please read quickly...

In addition: Spare parts are included: transmission, sprokets, etc.

CONS:
Tranmission- 2nd Gear is chipped and I have been skipping it, I do have a transmission ready to put in that will come with the bike
Headlights- High beams do not work, something electrical.
Chain needs to be replaced: Will and can fix it myself, but will take a good amount of money off if bought as is.

...Any idea how much it would cost me to have this other transmission installed? would it be a difficult process to put it in myself if i went and bought a guice/manual bike book?

second um whoever's ridden or owned one how does this bike compare to others n its class..pretty fast? Please suggest a few upgrades to up HP and quality..mpgs??
thanks!

The bike sounds like it is a salvage and its clearly going to cost a lot more than what the bike is worth to fix. I would recommend looking at supersports >5 years of age.

You could compare it to a 1996 GSXR-750. but with more weight & less HP. But it is still a wicked/very fast bike with good handling. A tran install may run between $400-$600 depending on shop. I would leave it stock and ride the crap out of it.
