im 19 years old, planning to get my first bike. i need a bike that can handle being on the highway a lot considering i need this bike to go from school and work and back and everything in Miami FL is considerably far for me.

i heard from a friend that the 250cc and other small engines don't last long on highways not sure if this is true or not (consider that i will be putting this on the highway for maybe a year or more monday to friday 55-70+mph) i need a bike to last me.

if you guys know anything about the insurance cost for me would also be great to know. with a budget of less than $4000 what can you guys recommend for me thanks for your time
how about this i just found for sale could something be wrong with it why its going away so cheap? (or maybe its not cheap you guys decide you know more than me lol) http://motorcycles.oodle.com/view/2008-honda-cbr-600-rr-best-color-excellent-condition-look/2506302272-miami-fl/

a 500cc will do you just the same justice as a 250 and you wont outgrow it for atleast a year or two, unless your a motogp/Knee down/Wheelie freak your ideal bike is a 500cc (for interstate use) and maybe a 600cc for a more "Fun" factor but theres hardly a differnece in power between a 500cc and 600cc maybe 5-9 hp

look at a 500cc

Both will be fine on highway 250 will get better mileage and less to insure. I suggest you go to M.S.F. Motorcycle Safety Foundation and take their beginner rider course they provide the bike and safety gear the bikes are mostly 250s you will learn allot and after completion you will qualify for a insurance discount.

You are asking the right questions. The 250cc ninja is capable of going 100mph. But, at 70mph it is turning 10,500 rpms. When you look at the 250 ninja owners manuel you will see that it has a service life of 50,000 miles. That is a pretty short life. Most ninja 250's I see come into my shop are smoking and fouling plugs before they reach 35,000 miles. It is desinged for a beginner to tear up and learn how to ride. The 500 ninja has a service life of 100,000 miles. It can handle daily runs at 70mph. Worth the extra money if you will be mainly riding on the highway.
