kawasaki KMX 125 wont start?

my kawasasi kmx has been stood for a week with the gasoline turned on. it started for a few seconds and cut out. the spark plug was wet so cleaned it and same thing, started for a few seconds then stopped and smoked a lot. so i cleaned the plug again and left it out for a few hours,. then put back and it ran for 20 seconds then cut out with a wet plug again. should i leave out the spark plug overnight & start again tomorrow. any advice?
 
i would be stripping the carb and cleaning all jets just in case...as well as fuel it needs air to run...the carb may be blocked.
