Kawasaki Bayou 300 wont shift into neutral?

my uncle buys bikes and 4 wheelers and sales the parts but he let me and my dad have this kawasaki bayou and said if we can fix it we can have in. He said it wont start because it wont shift into neutral so we know the battery is fine but if you could help me figure out why it wont shift into neutral it would help. thanks.
