just received seido 2600mah battery

really?well, i guess it was worth it then. do you 4 hours using imeem through wifi or edge? i'm assuming wifi would eat more of the battery. maybe stream furious or another music app will get different results? gonna have to keep testing. also, does anyone know if it makes a diffence in calibrating if you charge the battery from a cradle instead of in the phone? i'm assuming it might.

no steel bat, lol. just a 125 pound rottweiller. i actually have 3 cams, one ptz. they take motion snapshots and then i get them on my g1 while at work! so i know who's around my house even when i'm not there. you gotta work real hard to take my belongings and get away with it.

I just received my 2600mAh battery from Seido. It not been tested yet. The instructions tell me to charge it for 8 hours, so I will charge it overnight, and test the battery life tomorrow.

I do have a problem though. I placed the new back cover that is included with the battery on my G1 as soon as it arrived because I wanted to see how thick it makes the phone. It snaps on really snug, which seems OK, but as soon as I removed the back cover, it slightly cracked the bottom end of the cover near the charging receptacle. I am a little upset about this because I was very careful when removing the cover, and I did not have this problem with the original battery cover. I am thinking about contacting Seido and asking for a replacement cover. The cover is holding the charging receptacle end, but the crack is slightly visible from the outside, and I am afraid that if I remove the cover again (to change batteries), then it will crack even more, and it will be loose at that end.

What do you guys/girls think I should do?

It amazes me that they can't produce a battery same size with more juice, does the battery have to be that thick

last I checked we were in 2009

I would definitely contact Seido about this issue. I would be very mad, because it seems like you received a cheaply made back cover. I mean the cover should not crack right when you take it off.
Ask them for a replacement or get your money back .

Using a cradle to charge it could allow it to get a fuller charge, because the battery wouldn't be in the phone and it would have better ventilation. BUT it is physically double the size of the original battery and might get really hot no matter what..

Yes, heat has a strong role in how much juice a battery thinks it has.

Just try putting it somewhere cold ,or by a fan.. that's what i do

Its pretty thick but if u got big hands then i bet itd fit nicely, and I bet the battery life is worth it.
Thanks for the pics, cant wait to see how it fares.

Crazythunder I got mine today too. I love it. I don't understand all the bitching about the weight and size. First it was crying about the crappy battery life, along with the wishes of a extended battery. Now that there finally is one, it isn't good enough, its too big, its too heavy. CRY! BITCH! MOAN! WAH! WAH! WAH! Anyway I'm done venting.

Crazythunder, which cradle did you get. I bought a cheaper one off Ebay, but I can't charge the extended battery in it because the contacts are in the wrong position. I'm think I'm going to have to get the one from Fommy.com for $59.95. I was going to get this one in the first place because I like the extra audio jack that I can hook up to my Logitech Z-5500 Digital speakers.

Here's some more pics:

G1 with original battery and cover measures approximately 18mm.

G1 with extended battery and cover measures approximately 23mm.

G1 with original battery and cover weighs 5.6 oz.

G1 with extended battery and cover weighs 6.4 oz.

G1 with original battery and cover, plus 4 quarters weighs 6.4 oz.

I like the feel in your hand, just right.

So as you can see, no biggie. I'll just put 4 quarters in the other pocket to counter balance myself, wouldn't want someone to think I'm drunk walking that way or matbe I would. HA! HA!

Got my 2600mah today. The LED went green within a few hours and I'm leaving it plugged in for a few more (it's charging on a cold windowsill).

I'm still laughing a bit about the size. The G1 is now just a hair thicker than my trusty, seemingly indestructible five-plus year old Nokia 6600 (and seems to weigh about the same), so the size is nothing new to me. It still fits in the side pocket on my carpenter pants, and definitely feels a little more like the utilitarian device it was meant to be when I hold it to type or shoot the camera. If the battery life ends up being completely kick-ass after 5-6 charges it will without a doubt be a great trade-off.

I am searching my junk drawers for a spare piece of clear plastic to cut down to size and affix to the inside of the camera opening to protect the lens. I am also going to look for a bit of screen to cover the speaker holes (just like the original back case).

I will test it thoroughly once it's ready to use. I will chart the hours with Watts and report back on here in a couple weeks.

P.S.
I wish there was a way to connect a wrist strap.

It would definitely be much nicer if Seido stayed with the same style for the back cover more or less, e.g., camera protector, speaker mesh, the "with Google" label... I can understand if they can't put "with Google" on there for trademark issues, but the rest should be doable. Maybe someone else can come up with a better custom back cover?

I drilled two small holes in the bottom left corner of my back case and threaded a wrist strap through tem. It seems to work pretty well. It was that or affix a mount to the outside of the case.

This 2600mAh battery is good. After a full day of use I continue to have at least 50% charge.

Also, the size of the battery cover is becoming less and less of an issue each day because I am getting used to the new size of the phone.

I am not concerned about protecting the camera lens because it has a lot of depth compared to the battery cover.

The ULTIMATE cover would be a cover with a wide angle camera lens, and a sound diverter for the speaker(to direct the sound to the front of the phone) kind of like this...
