Just Installed Nightrider XIED on "09 Ultra

After reading 3000+ posts about IED's I decided to install the Nightrider XIED's on my "08 Ultra Classic. Installation couldn't have been simpler. It took longer to do a neat tie-wrap job than install. Simple. Front O2 sensor connector was under the voltage regulator tie wraped to the frame. Rear O2 harness connector was behind the filler cap. Piece of cake. Didn't do any temp readings, but rode about 70 miles today and in my opinion, and more importantly, my wifes, the bike did not give off anywhere near the heat it did before the IED's. That makes sense. I flew a turbocharged Bonanza for 10 years, and we used fuel (mixture) to cool the exhaust gas to keep the turbo within temperature range - it's amazing what a little extra fuel can do in cooling down an engine. Not sure there was any measurable improvement in performance, but that's not why I purchased them. Just like the Bonanza (air cooled/fuel injected) heat is definitely the enemy of longevity in an engine (within reason). Just my two cents. Not sure why they cost 100+ bucks (2 resistors/wire/2 connectors/heat shrink) but I don't hold it against them. Gotta recoup those R&D costs.

I'd be pretty curious to know if these changed your fuel mileage , better or worse.
The concept certainly makes sense.
Are these the non adjustable model from Night Rider?
My wife has actually mentioned the heat on the right side , I really didn't notice it too much.
Keep us updated.

I have them on my 08 Ultra SE3 and only lost a couple miles per tankful, but the performance, less heat and smoother more responsive engine is well worth it. Had a PC5 and removed it and went back to the XIED, it is better all around.

Check them out they really work in place of a PC5 or Race Tuner.

I had them on my 08 ultra.............they did the job but had codes all the time..........removed and went to a PCV and no codes and great performance

As for the 09 you only have to ground the rear Xied and it comes with the wire to do just that. When I ran them I connected it to the neg battery post.

On the 09s and later you have to ground BOTH XiEDs. The rear to the battery post is best and the front to the bolt that holds the voltage regulator. They will not work properly if not grounded.

My two cents....I think they are better than the PC5, I have had both and the PC5 is a pain in the butt and I have never gotten the performance out of it that I got out of the XiEDs, and there is a noticeable increase in performance with the XiEDs, at least on my bike. 09 Street Glide. If you have a stage 2 or stage 3 upgrade , then go with the PC5, otherwise stage 1 or stock stay with the XiEDs.
