Our educational system is focused on teaching young people to avoid drugs, alcohol, and fornication. Yet society glorifies celebrities who do exactly what children and teens are told not to do. Why do we pay 10-12 million dollars every year to SOME (I avoid generalizing) movie stars and athletes who get in all sorts of legal trouble, while far less to people such as teachers, doctors, and policemen?
I apologize if I came across as angry or judgmental in this question. I just think that our society needs to be a little more consistent in its definition of what is considered acceptable.
BTW, I'm a 16 y/o boy. I feel like the values promoted by the educational system conflict with the values promoted by the entertainment industry, and that myself and my peers are targeted by this.
I agree with the person who said that we are a society of hypocrites. But I think all individuals are intrinsically hypocritical, myself definitely included. A hypocrite criticizing other hypocrites
To the person who said that nobody glorifies celebrities who use drugs and alcohol, that's true to an extent. When a celebrity piles up too high on controversy, people catch on. But people often snap out of willful ignorance a little too late. Tons of professional athletes, for example, commit adultery all the time, and get into bar fights, etc., and yet there are still people out there who love them.
chance, I appreciate your answer, but please cut back on the patronizing. I know I have much more to learn, as I finish high school and college. But I consider myself a moderately intelligent 16 year old. Don't pretend that I'm completely ignorant and can do nothing but blindly follow my parents.
