Just being reported on "Aintitcoolnews";the not so cool news that maverick Director John Hughes has passed away.
Awaiting more details right now....
 
Fair to say his output was patchy, but Ferrie Buellers Day off is widely regaurded as one of the best films of the 1980's. Planes, Trains & Automobiles and The Breakfast Club are both well regarded as well generally. So I think your comment is very unfair, partiuarlly today of all days.
 
Whilst I appreciate the balance (I mean let's face it, John Hughes wasn't a great director), I think calling his films 'severe mediocrity' is harsh. Sure, Curly Sue was vomit inducing in the extreme and you probably had to be a fan of John Candy to enjoy Uncle Buck, but FBDO, TBC and WS are all widely acknowledged 80's teen classics. I'm willing to bet that all 30 somethings have watched them and love them, and whilst WS and TBC haven't aged well, I defy any teenager even today not to love FB. Hell, I'm mid 30's and still love it now.
 
Aww no. He directed so many of the movies i grew up enjoying. Breakfast club, Some kind of wonderful, Weird Science, Ferris Bueller's day off.

He was only 59. Thanks for the great movies Mr Hughes.
 
Very sad news :(

I still love Pretty In Pink and Some Kind Of Wonderful and particularly liked the care John Hughes took in choosing the soundtracks for both films.

And I have a huge soft spot for Uncle Buck.
 
Oh man, I read this this morning and my heart skipped a beat. Firstly because he was still young and secondly because some of his movies were the loves of my life, Pretty In Pink, The Breakfast Club, 16 Candles, Some Kind of Wonderful. I loved them all and have watched them over and over, I can recite The Breakfast Club from beginning to end. RIP and thanks for the joy.
 
RIP to John.

I just listened to The Dream Academy's version of "Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want", the music from the wonderful art gallery scene in Ferris Bueller's Day Off and it made me shed more than few tears. So many great memories. Thank you.
 
I think this weekend I shall be watching a few John Hughes films with some beers.

I hope Sky Movies do a tribute season showing all his films or something.

I have just read it on MSNBC news website that John Hughes director of The Breakfast Club has died of a Heart Attack at the age of 59. RIP
 
Gutted.
Some of the best movies of my teenage years (and no doubt many other people's!) were Pretty in Pink, Breakfast Club, Ferris and Some Kind of Wonderful. Not forgetting 16 Candles too.
59 is no age. :(
 
I was shocked to hear of his death at such a young age (59 is not old these days), Made some of my favourite films during the 80's, Uncle Buck, Ferris Bueller etc etc.

R.I.P John Hughs.
 
Aw, Totally Gutted.

I was still living in hope of a Breakfast Club Sequel of some sort.

Legendary Films Thanks to that Genius Man.

Uncle Buck,Plane trains and Home Alone are some of my fave films ever and some of the funniest i have ever seen !!
when you saw 'John Hughes' name on the poster you knew it would be good !!
