Except I actually have a job, and have always had a job. Not many people are as widely skilled as I am, and even less can hold their own in an economy like this as an independent contractor. In fact I'm at work now.

Your resume should tell a story. If you're going back to school, you could probably say that you took a PT position to aid in your education. I would definitely make that management role as prominent as possible.
