Jim Carrey is Like James Bond...

James Bond films of the eighties that is.

You just know what your going to get from the title and the fact that Jim Carrey is in it.

His 'latest' is called "Yes Man" basically a high-concept pass-the-time.

"A guy challenges himself to say 'yes' to everything for an entire year" it says on IMDB. "with hilarious consequences" I must add.

And yet he has shown he can be a really talented straight actor too, I hope he moves on from these OTT comedy vehicles for something more challenging while he still has a chance.
 
And the book is based on a true story is it not, (the author Danny Wallace actually did do the whole 'yes' thing for a year), so it basically is a straight role for him. If he pulls a funny face or does womething wacky, it's only because that's how it probably happened in real life due to the situation.

I can't imagine it being anything like the book at all. I expect they've just taken the basic concept and it will then be just a typical recent Jim Carrey film.
 
There will inevitably be a sequel - "The No Man", followed by another sequel "The Maybe Man", but for both Jim Carrey will obviously be replaced with some third rate actor. Also, imagine Aliens vs The Yes Man, the possiblities are endless

They're all pathetic, formulaic vehicles, where you put a rubber-faced comedian in predictable situations with the same ridiculous outcome. It's such a shame. Sure they make him plenty of money for his pet lizard's chef, but at the end of the day, he is a really good actor who neeRAB to stick to really interesting films like Eternal Sunshine and The Truman Show.
 
Not really. In the trailer he's certainly no where near as manic as the ones for Bruce Almighty.

It's wrong to judge it based on premise. It looks more manic than the Truman Show, but certainly more reigned in than his usual manic stuff.
 
I'm no fan of Carey's but given the film is based on a true story, I fail to see how the OP's post can stand up to scrutiny, quite frankly.

Jim Carrey IMHO is one of the most talented actors of all times. Sure in some films he plays a l9ot of similar characters - Ace, Cable Guy, Mask, Liar Liar, Bruce Almighty, Dumb and Dumber, Batman Forever etc only thing is these films are all great, classic films. I watch them everytime they are on TV. but why is this a bad thing? All top actors play similar characters, Morgan freeman, Keanu Reeves, Brad Pitt , Hugh Grant, Vince Vaughan, the list goes on! (because they are the best at it) nothing's worse than watching a film and thinking this film is perfect for so and so to act in. Also please remember that Carrey can only act as he's told to if the writers want rubber face then thats their fault!!

and like everyone else has said he has made some amazing films that shows his vast talent....Eternal Sunshine (one of my all time fave films), Number 23 (average story) Man in the moon and probably many more. if you have not seen any of these films watch them before passing judgement.

At the end of the day being pissed of with Jim Carrey bringing out another comedy is like being pissed off at Girls aLoud for yet another pop album (why dont they do rap? or metal?). at least he doesn't do lame sequels!!
 
He can't do sequels to his one-dimensional situation comedies - it's impossible.

And if Girls Aloud could do an amazing rock album, we might be pissed off with them for bringing out pop. We know Jim Carrey can be brilliant, so it annoys us to see him returning to shit like this - that's the point we're trying to make.
 
Again. There is no way you can possibly know this. Available evidence suggests it's not another Bruce Almighty (it might turn out to be, but there is nothing to suggest it yet)

Do you always prejudge things like this?
 
I have to agree. There are certain films you need to be in the right mood, and other films that if you flick channel and see - you'll start watching, even half way through.

He does seem to have been in many of these films, which are for pure entertainment. Sure, he got typecast but so do most actors.
