Its about receiving and not achieving. Rom5v17 For if by one man's offence death reigned through the one how much more those who RECEIVE abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.
It is about accepting what Jesus has already accomplished for us on the cross. 'It is finished' he said. There is nothing we can do to add to the finished work of Jesus. Col2v13 tells us he has 'forgiven you all trespasses'. I am forgiven, His blood has cleansed me once and for all. Heb10v12,14 - But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins FOREVER sat down at the right hand of God...for by one offering He has PERFECTED forever those who are being sanctified'.
It is about resting in the finished work of Jesus. Heb10v11 tells us that the priests would stand daily offering sacrifices which could never take away our sins, but Jesus after he had offered his one sacrifice for sins forever sat down, Eph2v4-6 tells us we 'sit together' in heavenly places with Christ! We can stop depending on human efforts to qualify for our inheritance, this does not mean being lazy Christians but trusting in God's perfect sacrifice as being enough payment for our eternal inheritance.
And grace is about understanding that Jesus fulfilled the law. We cannot place the law of Moses between ourselves and God otherwise we negate the work of Jesus Gal2v21 tells us if righteouesness came through the law then 'Christ died in vain'. We have been redeemed from the curse of the law.
1Cor15v34 - Awake to righteousness and sin no more!! The more we understand about grace and His righteousness the less likely we are to sin. Sadly many who do not fully understand about grace think that it offers a licence to sin, on the contrary.
It is ONLY grace that brings hope and peace and joy.
