Jeff Buckley

All the sources in the world won't make me think anything different.

Sure he had a good voice , sure he's good at doing covers by other artists but thats only half the story. I just found his own material bland.

If I was forced to listen to a Buckley album at gunpoint i'd choose one of his daRAB everytime.

It's more like a conversation than an interview. I can see your point, but I like the fact that this interview has no pretenses to it. there's none of the stiff formality and forced "professionalism" that makes a lot of music journalism so boring these days. And I don't think Jeff would have walked out on anybody. He wasn't that kind of guy. He seemed to be a very warm and accepting person, and I don't think he considered himself so important, that he'd get indignant over something as minor as how an interview was handled. I also like the fact that the interview was clearly conducted by a fan.

Plus: When I read it, I was primarily hoping he'd drop some names of banRAB he was into, so I was fairly satisfied. There are interviews on Youtube, but they're too short to yeild much of worth, and everyone knows that television interviews are always clogged with superficial crap.

Jeff Buckley had a 29 octave voice!

And 26 of those were the same octave!!

My favourite song was the one about the fairground, although I have no idea what it's called because I lost the CD case. He didn't write it but when he did covers he picked some mighty fine ones.

I disagree strongly and besides Grace only has 3 covers, I don't see why anyone should be discredited becaused they covered other peoples songs, Elvis sure as hell ain't discredited for that. I prefer Buckleys cover of Hallelujah over Cohens original by a great deal.

I don't think people praise Grace simply because of "what could have been", IMO it wasn't an album that promised that Buckley would one day make a great album, it WAS a great album, and sometimes one great album is all you need. At least in my opinion.

His voice is godly and he was a pretty great melodicist too.

Doing a classic song justice is one thing, completely outdoing it is another. Jeff Buckley did this with most of his covers. Even though he wasn't entirely original, not by a long shot, he had a voice that was out of this world. Great vocal range. And the songs he wrote himself on Grace are brilliant no question about it. Last Goodbye has some of the most perfect lyrics I've had the pleasure of hearing...

I didn't wanna catergorise this guy incase people didnt read the topic.
Jeff was an amzing artist, writing one of my favourite songs 'Hallelujah'. He wrote the phenomanal 'Grace' and was extremely talented.
Well Jeff died mysteriously in a boating accident in 1997. God I remeraber crying, he wrote such beautiful lyrics.
It was recently the anniversary of his passing and I was wondering if anyone had any opinions on Jeff.

well, you cant judge his ability too much seing as he only recorded one studio album. but the conclusions that can be drawn from grace are that he had an amazing voice, a competency on the guitar and a knack for writing very heartwarming, great songs. would of loved to see how he progressed.

It's good in the way that Jeff seemed to have been a fairly talkative person so even though the questions were mostly crap, he somehow did manage to say a lot of stuff that interested me. I can't help but to think like a starstruck fan, and I would have been extremely hurable in his presence, and wouldn't have dared to even consider bothering the man with a shred of personal information, let along half my life story. That's why I was erabarrassed for him, and why I like the interview to be professional, ask the questions I want to know the answers to, and don't bother the man too much, Lord knows he's probably had enough of strangers nagging him.

Grace is simply stunning, it's just one of them albums. Really special. So chilling yet beutiful at the same time, it's a shame I haven't heard it in so long. I may have to put that right very soon. I love Coen's work, but Buckley's version of Hallelujah is far better. Buckley gets so much praise for his voice but his ability to write a melody is very understated IMO.

Such a tragidy for music his passing.

that's a pretty rash statement, does music never grow on you? i wasn't instantly wow'ed by jeff buckley when i first heard his songs because they're not written for that purpose. in my experience the best music takes time to grow on me and then it lasts almost forever.

and ya, when i was younger i too thought that people with your new-wave tastes knew some objective truth as well, but ya, apparently i was way off.

I'm recently rediscovering this wonderful, wonderful man. Kinda wish he had a bigger discography, but his influence is palpable today.

Love 'im.

Post your thoughts on the guy and what he did (could have done) for music to you. Sorry if this has already been discussed, but this forum is so damn active it's impossible to dig stuff up.
