Japanator's Top 50 Anime of the 2000s

While this list is alot better than IGN's top 25 characters, I can only say that I had some agreement with the top 20 and that many in the 50s to 30s were poorly placed. I'm sorry but Love Hina beating Ouran, Baccano, The Girl Who Leapt through Time AND Black Lagoon? The anime was a trainwreck and the OVA's bearly make up for it. A serious misplacement right there.

Nice to see BECK get some love though.

Reading as I go along:

SEED above such titles as Cromartie, Baccano, and Death Note? I really hate the rating system nowadays. What's even more confusing is that they're using a Destiny picture! What the hell?! Oh, and I love this quote:

Your own side-story beat you!

Rahxephon: Seriously, I think no one has ever heard of Reideen.

Love Hina as 29? Uh....huh.

Okay, I love Kimi Ni Todoke but it's not even halfway done yet! How is it so high?

And then they just stuff like 20 movies into three spots.

The list seems to suggest there's either a lot of female writers or heavy shoujo-lovers.

Completely agreed.
And I'm glad my favorite anime was well.. nuraber 1.
I'm am extremely upset at the complete lack of Champloo from the entire list.
And FMA needed to be in the top 10.

I might be misunderstanding what you're implying here, but it comes off as you think people never heard of that series. If that is what you're saying I beg to differ. People tend to compare Rahxephon to Evangelion. (I prefer it over Evangelion honestly) I've seen a lot of comparisons too. (But like Evangelion, I don't really care for it either lol)

If that's not what you're saying then ignore that .

As for the list, judging from the top 10, I don't need to look at anything else since I don't agree with it at all. But then again, I do have my preferences (not to mention I haven't seen those animes)

People compare it to Evangelion, but I have never seen it mentioned as an alternate take on Reideen, the mythos it's freakin BASED on. Design of the mecha, the Mu and all.

Death Note is quite low! Wow. Didn't expect that. :P

I'm sad by the absence of Elfen Lied and Basilisk, but whatever. Glad to see Code Geass at 21.

That list was certainly....interesting. You can definitely tell what kinRAB of personal tastes they have over at Japanator. I will echo the bewilderment of Love Hina at #29 and add my surprise at seeing FLCL and AD at 1 & 2 respectively. Not saying I dislike either or that they shouldn't make the list but 1 & 2...Really? And finally end with: Kannagi makes the list and Welcome to the NHK doesn't? Makes sense to me!

So Gundam Seed being on the list is a crime? And here I thought people would be more enraged about Love Hina and Naruto being on the list at all.

If it's a female-heavy writer side, it's not as surprising. However, SEED remotely in a top 50 of the entire decade is....

They're using a Destiny pic! Come on!

Seed single handedly revied the Gundam franchise in Japan. Without it, I think Gundam might have died with Turn A and 00 would have never been made. So, yes I think it belongs in a top 50 of anime of the 00 decade.

Success =/= quality. They were talking about the show itself, not some "franchise rebooting" economics in their description.

And sales itself is quite arguable, as 00 has been close if not beating SEED in the same departments.

Also, Gundam will never die in Japan. I don't care what you think SEED did to "save", but it certainly didn't spurn a giant RX-78 statue. It made it slightly more relevant, but any AU show would've done the same effect. It's more a testament on how low a quality you can make without going dying. Freakin Destiny.....

Personally I really like this list, it may be biased but it's my kind of Bias. My two favorite series of the decade? 1. Azumanga Daioh and 2. FLCL. And they list my favorite unlicensed series Moyashimon, that gives them big bonus points in my book.

I'm sure it will prove to be a fantastic source for recomendations.

Yes it misses out on a couple personal favorites. Haibane Renmei probably being the one I'm most surprised not making a list with this sort of bias. But it also skews a bit to the last 5 years as well.

Take it for what it is, a list of a smallish group of inter-related people.

What might be interesting is to eventually compile the lists of multiple sources and see where those average out. there will be some differences in list rules (such as this one grouping movies) but it would be an interesting project to do.

The funny thing is I can't tell if that is serious or made in just.

So essentially, you dislike Seed and don't want to see anything good about it correct?

You know what my biggest problem with this list is? Monster only being nuraber 26 and no One Piece.

Very wrong. I have the DVRAB. I have multiple SEED toys, a major fan to follow on Toonami, games, etc.

But I know, objectively, SEED certainly isn't a top quality show.

There's too many plot holes, Fukuda doesn't know how to work on a tight schedule, and internal studio politics such as Cagalli's VA and shoe-horning T.M. Revolution resulted in a pretty poor-paced show for the first....what, 20 episodes?

And that's just SEED. They have a pic of Destiny, which speaks for itself.
