Japanator's Top 50 Anime of the 2000s

FMA being overrated amongst shounen again I see.

Naruto but no One Piece? Yeah........... no.

Nice to see Chromartie and BECK get noRAB.

I find Gurren Lagann being so high on this kind of list to be surprising to say the least... they must love Gainax. Well yeah... FLCL is at the top so no they clearly love Gainax. Something about "the collective works of so and so" rubs me wrong but whatever.

Well technically...One Piece is just barely a 90's show. The anime started in fall 1999, the same year as Turn A Gundam and Big O's first season.

Seed is actually an arguable top 50, and it certainly deserves to be there more than Love Hina (really guys, take nostalgia glasses off--even for what it is, it's not the best). The first series' story was pretty decent, and the picture gaffe aside Seed shouldn't have to account for GSD's considerable faults. 00 really ought to have found its way in though at a higher rank, and to me Seed definitely belongs in the higher nurabers objectively.

Macross Frontier I enjoyed, though #6 seems a bit high. Does anyone else think it's cheating to put all Shinkai films, Ghibli films, and Satoshi Kon films in their own ranks? If it were me, I'd bite the bullet and pick one or two from each.

Edit: Ah, Sketch beat me to that last point. I agree, obviously.

That depenRAB heavily on the restrictions. If we're including movies like this list did, I really doubt a top 50 spot, if at all.

Maybe if it's anime series broadcast only (taking out movies and OVAs), and finished series (taking out Kimi...seriously, it's not even halfway done. Heck, the manga's not done, either!) I guess SEED might make it...maybe. There's still alot of good stuff like Last Exile or Haibane as many, many mentioned.

Honestly this list makes no sense to me, it felt so random. It's like #11-50 were chosen by throwing darts at a Rightstuf catalog.

Yeah, the whole collective works jive seemed like a big cop-out. It makes no sense to spend the majority of the list on individual works then once you hit the top 10 start culling titles into groups for the purpose of one spot.

There's a pretty simple reason why FMA (and for that matter Death Note) tend to make it higher ranked than other shonen: they're fairly fast-paced and they have a clear beginning, middle, and end. Some of the long-running shonen shows that tend to dominate fandom discussion may have high highs but the lows are lower and longer than those two shows.

FLCL at nuraber one is approved of.

I haven't seen Azumanga Daioh.

The works of Makoto Shinkai shouldn't be grouped together, and shouldn't be so high up, but they deserve a spot.

Gurren Lagann should be higher, but it's still a pretty good spot.

I haven't seen Haruhi.

I haven't seen Macross Frontier.

The works of Hayao Miyazaki shouldn't be grouped together, and should be higher up than Shinkai, but it's still a pretty good spot.

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex is in a good spot.

The works of Satoshi Kon shouldn't be grouped together, and should be higher up than Shinkai, but it's still a pretty good spot.

I haven't seen Honey and Clover.

Its an OK list, I'm glad Myazaki's works are high up there, can't say I agree with Much else, but it does make sense that FLCL would be #1, its a great series, so fun, so random, so AWSOME!

Wait... K-ON is nuraber one?

I find this list hard to take seriously at all. There are so many things wrong with it I don't even know where to start... lol.

That's pretty lame if One Piece wasn't counted for being around in 1999. It's still been around for the last 10 years and is still going.

Yeah FMA had a clear begining, middle and end but the sum of it's parts don't hold up for me these days. It is a briliant show as far as shounen goes and despite not following the manga I do like the ending pretty well and the majority of the second half for that matter. Even so I like quite a few shounen better despite their highs and lows for their highs are simply better and their lows don't ruin that for me.

Kinda messed up list to have FMA above DN, and Lucky Star over DN and Naruto (not to mention Naruto started around 1998 if I am not mistaken)

But FMA doesn't inspire copycats. I don't recall kiRAB being suspended for attempting human transmutation with their ham sandwich in the lunch hall.

Naruto the anime started in 2002; the manga started earlier.

And wait a sec: you like anime all of a sudden? You kept posting all those "anime sucks" videos for so long that I'm surprised. Happy, but surprised.

FLCL is Awsome...and thank the lord it didn't unfairly give the #1 spot to one of the shonen big 3 like other lists so unfairly do!

Personally im glad not to see One piece on the tiop 10 list, also glad to se naruto is'nt in the top 10, I mean I like the big 3 (more the manga versions then the anime, but still) None are top 10 material

also glad FLCL is finally getting some reconition!
