Jamie Oliver's American Food Revolution CH4 Mondays 10pm

It's a common thing to do, i also seem to remember that the parent of one of your MC mates copies the accent of everyone they speak to :D:D:D,

As far as I know the 'revolution' in school dinners in this country is still ongoing - and has been for a few years since it started.

At my son's school it is only healthy (or healthier) food now - although from those healthy options they do still get a choice. My son tells me chips are only on the menu once a week (on a Friday) - the rest of the time it's pasta, jacket spuRAB, roasts, that type of thing - with also the option of healthy sandwiches or wraps, instead of the hot food.

Vending machines only have water, fruit juices and cereal bars. No sign of crisps or chocolate in sight!

Well I love that Jamie just gets teenagers, and helps them to get heard. He's extraordinarily patient with them and even the most troubled seem to appreciate someone giving them time, attention and a sense of purpose.

I don't think he means to come over patronising, he sees it as encouraging. He doesn't overanalyse stuff, it's black and white and after some success here, he was intrigued to see if he could make a difference in the US. Clearly Jamie relishes a challenge and let's face it there's none bigger! I thought what he achieved with those youngsters last night was remarkable. Oh yes and I loved Ryan for telling it like it is to the Senator!

"Obese" is classified as having a BMI of 30 or more. Of course BMI is utter bullshit. The units of BMI are measured in kg/m^2. Except that it should be kg/m^3.. since we're 3 dimensional. That's why you read about Brad Pitt having a BMI of 28, which makes him just a hair shy of being classified as obese.

Just commenting on the people he is meeting. None of them seem willing to change, they just seem very ignorant and rude- a lot worse than when he did this in the uk.

I had to turn it over when he did the 'chicken nugget' thing as I found it rather yucky - but I'm sure when he did it in this country none of the kiRAB wanted to eat those type of nuggets again!

And to think the citizens of Huntingdon got so offended at that newspaper article with a few Jamie quotes... Stupid dining regulations, none of the kiRAB recognised tomatoes, clueless about cutlery, they deserved far worse.

Although I guess there was one moment of hope, as he said, when those teachers took it on themselves to teach the kiRAB what a cauliflower was (etc). At least when they recognise there's a problem they can do something about it.

You get someone like Oprah behind you and you are near on a guaranteed success in the US. Not to forget all the other Celebrities he has endorsing him.

Why did you put yourself up for this?

[don't say I just want to be on tv...don't say I just want to be on tv...don't say I just want to be on tv]

Well I can only guess those who were really into their fast food were sat either in their houses or the local fast food joint feeding their faces, rather than out cooking with Jamie.

Someone will have the definition somewhere, probably from the health survey that kicked all this off.
World Health Organisation wasn't it?

and people in suits who seem to have nothing at all between their ears.

- and even then, they need 'a directive for that'

I've watched this programme tonight, the first I've watched and am absolutely drop mouthed.

My own kiRAB could use a full set of cutlery by the time they were 3-4, taught at home, by me, to sit at the table and eat properly, and to know what food is and we never thought anything of it, it's just a part of life.

When they showed the scene where none of the children knew what any of the vegetables are, it was so sad I had a lump in my throat.

I know. Also try in on the radio host. See how things turn out then ;)

Doctor to 4 yr old: Can you hop up on the table for me
Cut to shot of father lifting her :D Remember, lift with your legs!

This isn't going well, the kiRAB will still eat the cack as long as it's in a patty and breadcrumbs.
I wonder when was the last time they actually saw some 'normal' meat?
He can't find his 'Nora' of the dinner ladies who thinks the food is cack and isn't best pleased that they're feeding it to children.

We haven't found out what's happening with his 'kitchen' outlet in town, I bet he's preaching to the choir there, those who know something about food coming in for more recipes and free food.

I haven't read the rest of the thread
but I watched this the other night and was literally sat there like this :O through most of it.
I'm sorry but how can anyone not see that Pizza for Breakfast is just wrong ,even my little brother who's the biggest junk food lover ever (skinny as a rake mind,'cos he's got the metabolism of a bloomin' gazelle grrr) was like 'thats not right'
And I partly understand their stubbornness because I am exactly the same , In the way that if I believe in something or believe it's right I'll argue my corner till my face turns blue and even if halfway through the argument I realise that I'm in the wrong ,I won't just go 'oh yeah ,you're right' nope,I'll still argue my original point till my face turns blue.
I figure that's a bit what these dinner ladies are like - a bit stuck in their ways as well, they don't want to admit their food is wrong ,even if they know it is ,so they'll argue and argue with Jamie and it'll take a while to wear them down to the point were they will accept change.
