IV transportation Question/Concern?

Today, my girlfriend was going through a HIDA scan. they had only introduced the first radioactive chemical. After waiting about 45min and nothing happening, the nurse told her to walk around to get it going faster. Shortly upon standing she passed out for a few minutes. This testing place didn't continue the test and they told her to go straight to the ER. They didn't want her to be poked again for an IV so they left it in. However she drove herself to the ER with the IV STILL IN.

Is this normal for a medical facility to leave IV access in during unsupervised transportation? I mean what if some other driver hit her car and cause serious damage to her vein. Is there something we should do about this situation?

Thanks for any advise

As long as they secured it, I don't see a problem...you mean just the port itself, right? Many people have them in their chest for chemo, etc so while I've never heard of it like this I can see it happening.

Yeah, forgive me, just the port itself. the ER couldn't even use the port might I add..

thanks for the reply. it just seemed a bit odd. Some of my family members in the past were told if they are to be transported by ambulance if they want the IV to stay, or if they want to save on the ambulance costs then they would need to take the IV out.
