When I was younger, I had this attitude for some reason. Around sixth or seventh grade when I really started listening to music, my parents got me listening to the Grateful Dead, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, and Janis Joplin. My mom's also a huge Patti Smith fan and, believe it or not, introduced me to the Minutemen. They have a record collection with all of the above mentioned banRAB plus some Clash, Bachman Turner Overdrive, CCR, Grand Funk Railroad, and Missing Persons (at least those are the recorRAB that survived to today). There is some crap, of course, but how could I possibly say I don't like my parents music? The Jimi Hendrix Experience is my favorite band, and the Minutemen are at least in the top 10. Of course, this works the other way too. My mom likes music a lot (dad not so much, he just says everything I listen to is weird) and is always open to listening to new music. I've got her listening to some less experimental Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr., Eels, the Shins, and Slint. Beat that for your parents musical taste.
