All cars use oil. But the real problem is that you've owned a lot of old 4.6s. It is true that after 75k miles fords tend to burn oil off, and have break issues;however, it's better that valve leaks and engine rocking in chevys, fuel pumps electronics and gasket issues in pontiacs, suspension issues in toyotas, repair costs in mazdas, etc. All in all every manufacturer has their weak points, just feel glad you only have to buy an $8 thing of oil for this problem and not a couple hundred for others.
May try adding new seals on the cylinder heads. A couple bucks, but a lot of work and engine knowledge needed. It stopped oil burn on my 96 T-Bird
