Christian religion? I'm born in Hawaii and was there recently in a local Honolulu greek restaurant with some family and we discussed Plato's Republic seriously being the foundation of which nearly all Western thought originates. It really gives perspective to be in a Western place in the middle of nowhere like Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand, etc that our civilization with real secular roots comes from Greco-Roman philosophy/concepts.

The idea of democracy itself is directly from Greco-Roman philosophy, and that's arguably the most important idea in the West.

The Socratic method comes directly from Socrates, and a lot of our legal ideas come from the law of ancient Rome.
