excerpt...
The assumption that spending more of the taxpayer's money will make things better has survived all kinds of evidence that it has made things worse. The black family- which survived slavery, discrimination, poverty, wars and depressions- began to come apart as the federal government moved in with its well-financed programs to "help."-Thomas Sowell

This is such a true statement, but not just blacks have been affected by this, others too. Once Govt steps in to "help" things just start going downhill.

Also his statement about the idea that spending more of the taxpayers money actually helps, has indeed survived decades of evidence that it really does the opposite..what do you think?
Wizard: Way to state a historic fact with the intent to do away wit hthe argument because yo u don't like what it says...here's PART of the bio for Sowell:

Sowell has stated that he was a Marxist during "the decade of my 20s." His experience working as a federal government intern during the summer of 1960 caused him to reject Marxism in favor of free market economic theory. His intern work revealed a correlation between the rise of mandated minimum wages for workers in the sugar industry of Puerto Rico and the rise of unemployment in that industry. Studying the patterns led to his conclusion that the government employees who administered the minimum wage law cared not that they may be causing higher unemployment of the poor by enforcing that law; their primary concern was keeping their own jobs secure.[5]

Where did I say that the sole purpose of creating welfare was to make people dependant?????
That is a natural outgrowth of the welfare state...the purpose was for the Govt to do "something" to help poor people...what is that saying?

The road to hell is paved with good intentions!!!
