Isn't it stupid for people to be proud of their skin color or even culture?

The truth is, race doesn't exist and all scientists now agree with that. Because science is based on evidence and research, I trust science.

Enjoying culture is a good thing, but your culture no more belongs to you than it does to people outside of your so called "group". If you're an African American, that culture is just as much anyone elses as it is yours because we are all humans. Personally, I just enjoy all cultures and think of all of them as mine, because they all came from my species. Culture is not a bad thing, but if people get too attached to a certain culture that can cause problems. All cultures belong to everyone and are to be enjoyed by everyone.

Antartican, they do belong to everyone. So what are you gonna do if I claim the Balkan culture as my own and start doing all the same cultural customs as Balkans do? Are you going to kill me or imprison me?
the thing is 1, even if though I am "White" I could easily start following all the African cultural traditions and paint my skin, and I would be an African.
 
Race does exist, I've pointed it out to you before there ARE genetic markers that determine race. Skin colour, facial structure, bone structure and skull shape are all factors that have been used by forensic anthropologists to determine the race of an individual. Race is a BIOLOGICAL as well as SOCIAL construct. Any IDIOT who took first year Anthropology and Biology knows that. Stop spreading lies about the scientific community. Show me some evidence of these ''scientists'' who made this statement.

Also, you cant just paint yourself Black and start following African cultural traditions and suddenly you will be African, it doesnt work that way. If you were raised in that manner or if you were brought into the group by a certain ethnic tribe or whatever THEN you can call yourself "African" but otherwise no you cant. Ethnicity and Culture have just as much to do with the other members of the group accepting and recognising you as one of their own. Do you really think that Africans are stupid enough to not recognise a White man in black paint?

Simply taking up someone's cultural traditions without understanding the methodology behind them does not serve to add reverence, but instead it trivialises it. If I suddenly began praying towards Mecca but never converted to Islam then that doesnt make me a reverent fan of the culture, but it makes me an insensitive @sshole. Similarly if I decide that I wanna celebrate Passover even though I aint Jewish, that's ridiculous because I dont truly believe in what the celebration stands for and therefore I'm mocking it.
 
I beg to differ on the culture thing, skin colour is nothing to be proud of because it doesn't influence your character while culture does.

I'm Australian of Yugoslavian descent, thus culturally Yugoslavian, I'm proud of my culture while I don't find other cultures inferior. But I do encounter clashes and I find huge gaps with some other people, including Americans. Simply our interests are way too different...unless you enjoy Balkan food, Balkan music, speak our language, and you're hot tempered and impulsive like us.

My girlfriend is a northern Nigerian, thus from a completely different culture... We get along very well, I eat her food and sometimes listen to her music, and she eats my food and listens to my music. Normally we go for Nigerian food and Yugoslavian music...LOL

No, cultures are unique, they don't belong to everyone. I plan to raise my kids to be aware of both cultures and proud of their roots.

There is no such thing as a 'neutral' culture. Americans have an American culture. So if you want me to give up my culture, why don't you give up yours first? If all cultures belong to everyone you're most welcome to become a Yugoslavian :)

Edit: no, I'm not going to kill you or imprison you, but do you want to follow our culture? And it's not just customs, we perceive things differently. Reactions also vary...there are things that would piss off most Yugoslavians and leave an American unaffected and vice-versa.
 
Hell yeah I'm half Spanish and half Japanese and Spain and Japan do things so differently than in the US so when I'm here in the US and I talk about how thing are over there everyone is so intrigued and its fun since people get to see how cool other places are.

Skin color I don't care so much I've always been classified as white since I look like a carbon copy of my mom just made more manly. No one really cares if you white, in Japan though it gets pretty interesting every once in a while cuz they call me a "gaijin" even though I'm technically a Japanese citizen too lol

Unfortunately it doesn't work that way, the truth is people see color. People see features and hear vocal tones. We are different in that manner but the important message should be, so what we are different, who cares, I still accept you.
 
In a certain perspective view I agree with you. However think about it this way. If you were "Chinese" for instance and grew up in America with the Chinese culture. You are bound to feel and see the difference from your own culture that you feel at home and with your family than you do else where in your life. You might hate it at first. But after a while you might be glad for the "unique-ness" of it all. Anyway i am saying that there are so many different cultures that when u are the minority with your culture in a country you might gain a sense of pride bred from at first wanting to conform then seeing the uniqueness.

We are all HUMAN; why can't just people take proud in THAT?
Is it so bad that they have to make up terms like "Anglo-American"?
Oh, and the thing is; you can't start following up "african cultural traditions"(you know how many there is? I? I don't know. I bet there are like.. over a hundred.) and suddenly become african? You know why?
Because of RACISM.. from blacks. How ironic, huh? ;) lol
 
The problem is that people are put down because of their culture and what they look like. I wish everyone had your views on the human race or culture, but most don't, sad to say.
 
yea it is stupid. it's stupid to be proud of something that you technically had no part in creating or starting or whatever. with culture it's iffy because like you said culture can be adapted by anyone so there is a choice and work involved. not the pride that is a problem there. if anything it's the exclusivity and how certain races tend to identify with certain cultures that is a problem.
