Islamic group gives warning to South Park creators for 200th episode...

I never said it was - in fact, it's more of a Sunni thing. But they ARE, if I'm not mistaken, the largest group of Muslims, and for centuries they've always drawn Muhammad with a cloak over his face, or just used a symbol, or not used him at all. I'd say that's major enough to call "Islamic Law" of sorts.

Slight correction, it's specifically forbidden FOR MUSLIMS to depict Muhammad, just as it's forbidden FOR MUSLIMS to eat pork, just as it's forbidden FOR ROMAN CATHOLICS to eat meat on Good Friday. To take the particular rules of one particular religion and apply them to believer and non-believer alike is to spit in the face of religious freedom.

No it's like you're insulting someone and they pull out a gun and shoot you in the face.

What are you doing?! You'll destroy us all!

In all seriousness, imo, the SP creators only made fun of the lengths of censorship folks will go through. This radical group is taking it too far...

Shows like this make fun of everyone! E-ver-ree one-a!

Except the way Muhammad was portrayed wasn't really offensive. The way one of the other religious figures had been portrayed, by snorting cocaine with a dollar, is way more offensive.

Has anyone complained about that yet?

Since this is a thread involving South Park, I wouldn't be too suprised about it... especially since it's causing all sorts of contreversy involving these particular episodes, to the point that the creators are getting threatened by a more "dangerous and serious" group than your average "soccer mom" type of people or what-have-you.

But someone of a different faith should be understanding and tolerant enough to respect that and realize that perhaps there are such things as sacred cows. "That's South Park and that's what they do" is a cop-out. Especially considering they tried this once before and Comedy Central censored them then.

To most Muslims just portraying Mohammad is offensive enough.

True. Like I said, I'm all for freedom of speech and freedom of religion and all that. I think it's alright to depict Muhammad. I have no personal objection to that. I mean, it doesn't offend ME.

But I'm just saying, if you're doing something to offend people, you shouldn't be surprised when they're offended. If you're being an ass, don't be surprised when people treat you like an ass. It's not okay to threaten violence and death, but it's ALSO not okay to be an ass. I mean, you have a RIGHT to be an ass if you want to, but... like I said, don't be surprised when people respond to that.

Exactly. Shooting people in the face is WAY out of line. Clearly. But that doesn't make it alright to insult people in the first place.

Yes, I know it's South Park's thing to offend and insult. I'm totally fine with that. But they're not just innocent victims in this whole thing. It's like, someone runs up to you and starts cracking jokes about your mother (or something very important to you in a sense), and when you get pissed off, they say - it's just a joke, you should chill out!

There's doing things to be funny and there's doing things to be an ass, and showing Muhammad... wasn't really funny. There was no joke. The joke was that they were offending people. And I'd say that's just being an ass.

I've got no problem with tolerance and understanding, people are free to practise whatever religion they please as long as they're not breaking any laws. But when they try to impose the rules of that religion on me under the threat of violence, then I have a problem.

Again so what? I'm a practicing Catholic, If I can handle watching an ep of South Park where a statue of the Virgin Mary menstruates onto the Pope's face without bursting into a homicidal rage, why can't a Muslim handle Mohammad wearing a bear suit? Of course the fact is that the vast majority of Muslims can handle it just fine, because like me they know that whatever personal offence we may take is nothing next to the misery of living under a theocratic dictatorship. The real problem are the handful of fanatics trying to bring such a regime about and they're not all Muslim.

These people need to learn how to take a joke. Seriously, this is ridiculous. I missed "201" last night and was hoping to catch it today on South Park Studios, but I guess I won't be able to do that until further notice. But all this censoring I'm hearing about to this and the previous episode is absurd. I can understand why Comedy Central had to do it, it's just sad that it had to come to this.

You know what? I'll join in too.

Come and get me.

I understand what you're saying there. I've gotten offended before because somebody made a generalization about my religion based on something that only one person did. But the reason why I said "terrorist" is because:

1. They claim that they're making the threats as a purpose to "terrorize" the South Park creators. If somebody is terrorizing, whether if it's threats or an action, they're considered to be a terrorist.... what I said wasn't basing them on their religion, but only on their intent of threatening/terrorizing somebody.

2. I would rather say terrorist than Muslim or Islam, because I know a few people of that religion who are NOT terrorists or associated with them at all.

I don?t usually listen to the Michael Savage Show but I was flipping through the stations the other night and there was a guy reporting the story. I then found out it was Savage but I have to agree. The gist of the report was how this is a pattern with political correctness and these Islamic groups. These same groups that are making the threats mock and bash all other groups, religions, and creeds yet when they get not even a smidgen of the same treatment they threaten death to the infidels and the PC police censor it. Yet if any other group being mocked on a TV show complains they get told to sit down and shut up while the show is exhibiting their freedom of speech. Not only is this a double standard but what kind of message does this give when you show these kooks that you will bow to their whim when threatened?

That said, I?ve seen several South Park episodes and it?s always seemed to me that they go after everyone equally. I also remember a 2 parter with this same premise but on SP it was Family Guy who was going to depict Mohammad. I?ve yet to see any comparison made between this episode and the real life event. I also remember Isaac Hayes quitting the show when a script called for him to mock scientology. Even though he had no problem mocking a slew of subjects and religions over the years he balked at this and quite because he was a scientologist. I?ve also seen the South Park satire on Joseph Smith and that was surprisingly accurate from every book I?ve ever read about how he wrote the Book of Mormon. PBS just aired a series about this too a few weeks ago that told the same story. Although I haven?t seen every episode they?ve done I was surprised by what they did there. They just told the real story and it sounded like THEY made it up. Ha!

These Muslim extremists (I?m not sure if we can label them extremist for 2 reasons. 1.) This seems to be the norm from that part of the world/branch of Islam and in keeping with some of the writings in the Qur'an
and 2.) The westernized Muslims always take offense to these guys and make a point of saying that these guys are the extremists because they do not share this death to the infidel value. But what I question is are these westernized Muslims just the same as the secularized Christians/Catholics/Jews who practice a watered down version of their own religions.) never help their cause when they do these things. Anyone remember when they sentenced the school teacher to death for naming a teddy bear Mohammad? I?ve also been told by several people that out of all of the wars going on in the world today only 2 don?t involve any Muslim groups. I?m not sure if this is still true but it was when I was told this a few years ago.

I say let it air. Why should any group be held above any other from satire? This is not a cop on on ?their South Park. That?s what they do? My logic comes from the fact the Mormans, Catholics, Christians, and Jews have ALL complained when satired on the show but were told to sit down and shut up. The Muslims are no more special, are they?

These radical Muslims frequently bash other religions and in one of the quotes from the head of Revolution Muslim, he called Parker & Stone a gay slur I can't repeat here.

I don't think we should feel bad for them being offended, especially when they react by threatening the lives of two of the best satirists in America.

I'm all for being tolerant of people's beliefs. I'm all for respect. However, I just don't see how this is fair at all. A bunch of radicals shouldn't be able to dictate what is appropriate or not. Jokes can be in good taste or in bad taste; some people vehemently try to make Christians look stupid and weak. Is it annoying? Yeah. But it's their right. Just like I have the right to say it was in bad taste.

South Park really never spits on a specific religion, or religion in general for that matter (except for Scientology). They go after problems within the religion, but make a point to say that not everyone of said religion is evil, and neither is the religion itself. Just look at the Mormon episode!

Muhammad isn't even depicted in a negative way. In 201, presumably he'd just be standing there. In Super Best Friends, he was just that: a friend to other religious figures who helped the world. Matt and Trey aren't trying to show Muhammad in an attempt to be spiteful towards Islam, I think, but to say that they can't dictate what others say. That it's crazy people would be angered over a mere drawing of an unrealistic Muhammad just standing around. I'm sure there are Muslims who are fans of South Park and agree with the message.

I am curious as to why Islamic Extremist are watching South Park or any other American shows in general. Are they that bored?

New reports are showing the guy who made the threats is an American Muslim extremist, who converted. He used to be a goth kid, according to some articles.

He's a wacko, nontheless, and has been making threats before. He's also inspiring other radicals to follow his threats.

My view on why muslim extremists are watching South Park is this. They WANT to cause problems, start fights, and kill people. THat being the case they ACTIVELY look for "reasons" to justify their hate. THen you get the limp spined PC people validating their hate by "undersatanding" where they are coming from. So it wouldn't matter if it's South Park, being American, naming a teddy bear Mohamad or doing some Danish political cartoons. They are going to do what they do anyway. They just look for reasons to "justify" it to others until they get around to acting on harming their PC supporters.

From the South Park site. Matt and Trey replied with this.

"In the 14 years we've been doing South Park we have never done a show that we couldn't stand behind. We delivered our version of the show to Comedy Central and they made a determination to alter the episode. It wasn't some meta-joke on our part. Comedy Central added the bleeps. In fact, Kyle's customary final speech was about intimidation and fear. It didn't mention Muhammad at all but it got bleeped too. We'll be back next week with a whole new show about something completely different and we'll see what happens to it."

Oh crap! Looks like we're getting a new new episode.
I also find it messed up they censored the final speech. Please this episode better be available on DVD.

Hey by the way, aren't we supposed to have an announcement for this week's episode by now? We always get them on Sunday and South Park Studios hasn't been updated yet. That's kinda worrysome...
