Is western culture cruel to the elderly?

I was watching "Taboo", the episode about Rites of Passage, and..

Wow, I never noticed that.

Other cultures think they're knowledgeable.

We lock them up in retirement homes instead of letting them be with their families or do what they want, forget about them, and think they're annoying/boring.

We're obsessed with being young.
 
Right.
The elderly have forgotten more than most people know.
Retirement homes are just an easy way out.Very selfish.
 
Taking care of people can be tedious and boring for the caregiver. I think the "me first" attitude in our society is the main reason for the neglect of the elderly as well as young children and the mentally challenged.
