Is turning 15 in the hispanic culture similiar to turning sixteen in American Culture?

My mexican friend gave me a very invitation to her 15th birthday. She gave a very elaborate invitation, in spanish and the invitation says it is at the Church (there is a reception afterwards) Another thing if it's a really formal thing what should I wear?

Yes, it's way different in the Hispanic culture. Its like a wedding as she is to celebrate her entry into womanhood.
Dress nicely and bring a gift (money is always a good one- $10 - $20) Have a great time! Best wishes.

its totally different. In 16 year old american birthdays there is not importance. It is just pop culture.
In mexican cultures, the whole family and sometimes community is involved when a person turns 15.
