is this discrimination?

i was talking to a friend and randomly within our conversation he said he would never date anyone who was muslim.. so i asked why and he said because his ancestors fought and died in the war against muslims so that they would not have to unite with one another (he is sikh) so for him to be with a muslim girl would be betraying them.. so i said to him "dont u think that's discriminatory?" and he said no its just preference.. and i was like no its not preference because you are discriminating against a certain group of people based on their religious faith.. hes like its like apples and oranges i like apples but not oranges does that mean i am discriminating? i said no because you gave them both a try and do not like the taste of oranges, you never shut oranges out of the picture altogether based on the type of fruit it is.. and hes like its the same thing two types of fruit, 2 types of people.. so i said is this a joke? you cannot compare apples and oranges to people and religious faith, you could meet the girl of your dreams and once u find out she is a muslim u wont want to be with her solely based on her RELIGION, that is discrimination.. it went on from there but basically he kept claiming that he was not discriminating against muslims even though he would never date one lol.. what do you guys think? (it doesn't have to be muslims you can imagine it being any other religion if that helps)
edit: i should have mentioned that he has no problem marrying any other religion (i.e. christian, jew, buddhist, hindu) just refuses to marry muslims
