Is this a good deal for the sale on these Bell Receivers

true, but what if after 13 months, the unit is defective...there goes your savings.

Workforbell answer the real question that was asked, when do you think Bell will go MPEG4? that is what I need to know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My bad experiences will not preclude me from going back, I want as much HD as possible. Which will be Bell.

Not quite. Receivers come with a 1 year warranty. After that, you can pay $5/mo for an extended warranty or pay $150 for replacement. All EV receiver repairs are done using a refurbished receiver. The main reason to rent now is if you want to get a better receiver in 2 years when the contract runs out. Better credits/deals may make either a rental or purchase look better. The current $300 credit for a 9200 purchase makes it a pretty good deal.

thanks for that breakdown Westmanguy

a few follow up questions regarding what you wrote:

You said the 9200 can power 2 tvs. Does that mean that both tvs will play the exact same chanel everytime you watch?

Also:
On Option 2, the $98 charge includes the $20 rental fee, correct?
That means after 6 months, if i want to drop down to the HD essentials, my monthly cost would be $67 plus the $20 rental for the HD PRV for a total of $87? only $11 less than the all-in-one

HD Extra at $98 includes the $20 /month rental 9200 receiver fee.

HD Essentials at $67 includes $10 /month rental HD (NOT PVR) receiver fee.

So lets say this is what your probably going to do:

Sign up with HD Extra.
Receive it at half price for 6 months at $49 / month
After the 6 months you would downgrade to HD Essentials.

Now HD Essential includes the $10 / month rental of a regular, non-pvr HD receiver.

Your 9200 is built in at $20 / month rental.

So The HD Essentials is $67 / month

$67(HD Essentials) - $10 (per month rental fee of non-pvr HD receiver) + $20 (per month rental fee of 9200).

So its $77 / month.

This is exactly what I plan to do after my 6 months.

The 9200 is DUAL-TUNER.

So in theory you could watch 1 live program and record a different program on a different channel. Or at its height, watch a pre-recorded program, and record 2 different programs on 2 different channels.

Now since its dual-tuner it can power 2 TV's. Note: Not 2 HDTV's, that means 1 HDTV and 1 normal TV, or a second HDTV but not HD channels.

Now you can still record on 2 different programs at the same time, set one to go to TV2 and one to go to TV1.

You can you pause and rewind and fast forward on both TV's, here is an example of what is possible:

1 HDTV hooked up on TV1
1 normal TV hooked up on TV2

You could possibly, set a recording at 8pm on CTV TorontoHD on TV1.
Set a recording at 8pm on Global TorontoHD on TV2.
You could watch a pre-recorded HD program on TV1 at 8pm
You could have a wife/or son/daughter watching a prerecorded program on TV2 at 8pm.

Hope you get that. And the remote controls work like a cordless phone. They get a wireless signal, you never POINT at a receiver you just press and go.

so MPEG4 only affects HD units?

i would have thought if they are going through all that trouble, they would replace every box out there.

Unfortunately you live in an area where our National Install team does not cover, so they are using a sub contracted installer in the near-by town, hence the delay in shipping equipment. They really should have factored in this when making the install date, (but clearly they didn

I was really happy with the quick prompt installation set from Bell for me.

I called Thursday last week and the installer is coming this Thursday (3 days and counting.. this weekend is by nothing but Bell weekend!)

This is suprising to considering I am in a rural area, outside of the city.

Bell is not charging me for mileage either for the installer to come out from Brandon, MB, 1 hour away.

So far am please with Customer service.. all those BEV CS horror stories never came true with me... yet...

Q1; There is a special for 50% off the first (600-300=300) Rental is $20 I believe, annd you get so much free programing. It is all on the site!
Q2: Bell will install their own just take it off and sell/give it away.
Q3: This is not allowed with Bell all receivers must be located at the same address. Not that you can't do it on your own, but it violates the CSA.
Q4:Yes
Q5: No
Q6: They should be plugged it but don't neccessary have to be, this is only doneto show the receivers are in your house and to keep the smartcard up to date for PPV pursaches
Q7: If there is such a bundle?
Q8: NO better to sell it your self.

Westmanguy, I bet $$ to donuts, it won`t be as you said. Bell will mess it up. I would arrange install with them, or local at Visions or HH!!!!!!!!!!!!! Then you have a local contact, trust me my young friend I have been through this before. I know you are pissed at me, but this is sage expereince talking here. Been there and been screwed by BEV!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Trellaine, go to Visions tommorow and shop the $549.00 they should beat it by 5 %. They are the most aggressive on Bell that I have seen i n Western Canada. Last receiver I bought 2 years ago was a 3100 and I got it for free on a 1 year commitment. I was told it should have been 49.99 to 99.00 from me and they got $200.00 from Bell to sighn me up. So shop Visions, but yes you can always go to FS or BB.

Really, wow only 15%, I thought companies went up to like 100%

Then are they losing out money on there half price sale?

Not exactly how I'd have you sell the product, (never sell on the idea that it will break).

Buy vs rent, buy for $600 up front cost, net after credits is $300 very good deal, 1 year warrenty and free install. rent with a $100 up front cost refunded on first or second bill, $300 in savings on programming, net cost after 2 yrs $180. Lower up front cost, full warranty for the entire time you have the box and a free upgrade at the end of the term to the newer version of HDPVR that will be available. Down side, contine to pay the $20 a month.

Both great deals, I would just ask what type of customer are you? Do you prefer to upgrade to the newest and greatest every couple of years? If so rent makes sense, if not the purchase is a great deal.

this is only the case with programming credits (like the 50% off programming option currently on new rentals)...since the programming is $100, you get it for $50, so you are only paying tax on the $50, which would end up at $57 in ontario (14%).

in the case of the half price purchase option, if you buy a $599.99 system, you will get a credit applied to your bill of $300...if your bill is $114 with taxes, you will show a balance of $186 as a credit...credits are applied to your account just like a payment is...the "net" pricing shown in ads is never really correct, as it doesn't take into account the taxes...the $599.99 price, would mean you would pay $683.99 and get $300 applied to your bill as a "payment" in the form of a bill credit (same as paying $300 cash on your bill)...your net price would be $383.99 including taxes, instead of $299.99 plus taxes which would be $341.99...perhaps it's easier with smaller credits...if your bill is $114, and you purchased the 4120 system, so you would get a $50 credit, when you got your bill in, your bill would be $114-$50=$64.

it is the same way cell phone credits were processed before they moved to have them done in store...you use to buy your phone for $250 plus tax, and if you signed a 2 year contract, you received a credit on your bill of $150, but "lost" out on the tax difference on the $150.

After the 1st year I can cancel or pay $20 a month rental.

Then I signed up for the HD package (free for the first 6 months)

My question:

How did hellcat get the BEV 9200 free for one year? I thought the deal for rental was the all-in-one for six months at half price, which included the 9200.
I am making the move very soon and that deal sounds better than just the all-in-one deal.

Can anyone help me understand this?

Cheers.

Hmmm maybe I will. I am not really a big fan of Visions personally. Not sure how reputable they are?

I wonder if the Bell stores will match?

I think I prefer BB or FS considering the 30 day return policy.

But I guess i can check it out-thanks.

I just don't understand why that IRIS program that links FS up with BEV doesn't work.

Wow that doesn't encourage people to want to rent standard receivers...

Guess I'll put out $99 and buy it...
