as compared to an American not as a Asian from any of the Asian countries.
speaking only of an American born Asian

I'm half japanese and my mother, her brothers and my grandparents are full japanese and born in the U.S. There is still a distinct Japanese culture in our family. We still do some of the traditional japanese customs, but have slowly become more integrated into the US culture. I would say that the asian american culture is a combination of traditional japanese culture and regular u.s culture.

Yes, but it depends on where you are. I have a Japanese-American friend in Los Angeles where there is a huge American-born Japanese populous and they can be very tight knit and exclusive (many will only date other J-A's and won't even consider marrying anyone other than another J-A). I know a lot of Chinese in my area (San Fran) tend to be outside the Chinese-American culture only when they have to--like at school or at work or for shopping; otherwise, they pretty much their lives involve only other C-A's. These are all first and second generation though. The third generation seems to be diversifying.
